| Photoshop / Web Design - Making Text Active
When I save a photoshop web template to a html file, the text is created into an image. I want the viewer to be able to highlight the text from a webpage, copy and paste it.
I've attached a psd file of the project -- to give you an idea of what I'm taking about.
Do I have the right tool by using photoshop for web text? Any other ways to do this in PS? What do you suggest or disagree with?
I'm looking forward to your comments or questions.
Thank you! |

| reply to CommonLogic I didn't look at the PSD but you do have to slice the file for PS to make the html. At that, it will make just a graphic with the text on it that matches everything else and aligns perfect.
Now, if you ship your creation to ImageReady you can make the text do things. There is a button on the bottom of the Tool Pallette that will open ImageReady with your current project ready to edit. ImageReady will let you assign roll over and click effects. Then save the page from ImageReady and the code will be written for you.
Any of that make sense? -- Prop your feet up at Southeast Chat |

| reply to CommonLogic I don't think I've put a page on the web produced with IR but I did explore some of the features. It seems to be quite easy. Thought I'd warn you about text layers before you develop a large project and try ImageReady for the links. There is probably a way to make it easy and I just didn't explore it far enough but one thing I remember is that the text for each link needs to be on a separate layer if you plan on letting IR make rollover/click effects. Maybe the next person who explores those features will discover the way around that.
On the plus side, if separate text layers are required at least the Guides setup is better in ImageReady. You can set horizontal and vertical guides at one time and use settings like make a guide every 40 pixels or every quarter inch, etc. You can keep that text aligned and even have nice guides for slicing.
The rollover, down, click, etc., states are easy to set up and almost intuitive. Just look at the tabs on the Animation Palette. If you check the Styles Palette you will see some canned effects ready to use so you can get started easy. Any style that has an arrow in the corner of the icon will produce some button/link effects automatically.
In ImageReady you can add your URL's if you like. Pick background colors or images for link buttons. You'll see you can also do image maps if you like. IR seems to be set up to develop for the web. Yet everyone uses Photoshop, hmmmmmm.... -- Prop your feet up at Southeast Chat |
