| downstream capped to 96kbps - HELP!
Here is my background info:
Speed Package: 1.5M/385k Mode: 5100b CPU/OS: 2.4gig p4/ Windows XP Connection Manager: Don't know Router/Firewall: Yes, Linksys, but I also connected modem directly to my computer and the same problem exists. Service before April 2001: No Filters: Yes.
I was on the internet yesterday (Saturday July 9th, 2005), and around 3:00 PM CST my internet stopped working. I restarted the modem and after about an hour the internet was back up but it was incredibly slow. I typed in 192.168.0.1 to see my dsl information and it says I am connected at 96kbps downstream with a 384kbps upstream. I normally have a 1.5M downstream and this is more than 15X slower!
Can somebody please tell me why this may have happened or what I can do to fix this? I called the techsupport and they transferred me to an incompetent agent in India who claims that everything on their side is okay, and that it is my problem. They want to charge me 60.00 to send a technician out here to fix THEIR problem. Please let me know if this is my problem or if the support at SBC is mistaken. Thanks ahead of time. |

| reply to Curtis Try powering down the modem; leave it turned off for at least two minutes, then turn it back on. After it finishes getting in sync (all lights steady green) check your speed again.
It's possible that the glitch caused your modem to train itself down to the slow speed. Once it goes to a low speed, it won't try to train itself back to higher speed. Powering it down, then back up, will start the training over (that's what is happening when the green lights are flickering before they become steady) and if it was a temporary condition on the line, you may be back in normal state.
If it's still slow, post a note in the SBC Direct forum (read the rules first there; you can't access any existing threads but you can start a new one that only you and the official tech folk can read). |
