 | [Poll] Antivirus Poll 2005 As you may know, we have links at the top of Security Forum, pointing to our AT/AV/Firewall/AS Polls. It is summer of 2005 now, and we feel it is time to refresh things a little bit - we often refer people to those links, it will be nice to have them up to date.
If you use more than one AV, please vote for the product you really depend on. Information concerning your experience with particular product and anything else that may be relevant is most welcome. Tell us what you like and why do you use your AV.
Please be polite and helpful toward one another, refrain from starting AV flames and "my daddy can beat your daddy" type of comments.
In preparation for this AV poll previous polls and preambles, compiled by StraitShoot and jabarnut , are being used - kudos to them for the work well done.

1 edit | KAV Personal Pro 4.5 here. I find 4.5 to be more configurable than 5.x, which is why I've stayed with it. |

hgratt join:2003-12-09 Plano, TX | reply to MapleLeaf I am using Avast (free version).
What has impressed me the most is the Avast team's support in fixing an issue that I had noted. Over the course of a few days, they confirmed the issue and gave me a custom fix for the problem (outbound email scanning upload speed degradation). Furthermore, they have also incorporated the fixed code into their product.
Even though I am using the free version, I was getting responses from their technical staff (via their forum) within minutes of posting. Impressive.

 | reply to MapleLeaf said by MapleLeaf:If you use more than one AV, please vote for the product you really depend on see, that's the problem... most people running more than one really depend on them both!
i run NAV as my resident AV, so i voted for it in the poll, but in running KAV (with extended bases) as on-demand scanner, i like to think i really depend on that, too!
another way of saying it is.... i feel real good about NAV because of KAV
but i do appreciate the poll, MapleLeaf -- look out kid they keep it all hid |

You voted exactly the way a thoughtful respondent should do: in your situation you chose your resident scanner.
Plus, and this is important, you posted comment that extends your voting choice, limited by board's design. Since we don't have luxury of multi-choice polls, your comment is most helpful, thank you -- Remember, I'm pulling for you - we are all in this together... |

My only complaint is that Mcafee doesn't release daily virus definition updates for home users. |

Sikki join:2000-09-19 Smithfield, RI | reply to MapleLeaf I currently use BitDefender 8 standard. It replaced KAV when KAV didn't find a virus that slowed the computer to a crawl. I switched to BitDefender which found the virus and have had no problems since. I don't recall the virus that was found but after the switch the speed is back to where it was a long time ago.
I am about to run out of virus definition updates on my laptop with Trend Micro and will be switching to BitDefender at that time. |
