Re: How much SBC/Yahoo software do I need installe

The 5 light version is the 5100b.

I would follow this FAQ »Ameritech - SBC FAQ »Funhouse 5100b Setup and Reference Info to let the 5100b handle the PPPoE. I just thinks it's easier plus you can see the stats of the modem.

Re: How much SBC/Yahoo software do I need installed?

Thanks for the reply. I have a 5 light SpeedStream 5100 no A or B on the label. I checked the boxes on the OS setup for it to acquire address automatically. If that will work, I'll stick with it.

"...When I installed the SBC/Yahoo software.." That was your first mistake, you don't need the sbc/software installed at all to get DSL to work.

First what type of modem do you have a Efficient 5100a (aka 4 lights) or 5100b (aka 5 lights) or another modem?

Do you have a router at all?

Depending on the modem it can handle the PPPoE by itself or XP can do the PPPoE.

Follow this FAQ »Ameritech - SBC FAQ »How do I install or uninstall AT&T/SBC Yahoo! Software?

I upgraded my computer to a E-Machine AMD64 2.4GHz with XP Media center. I've been running a 900MHz E-Machine with XP Home and SBC DSL with no problems for the last 15 months. When I installed the SBC/Yahoo software on the new machine and reboot all my icons and Start menu vanish the last being a ghost of SBC Self support tool. I'm not very savvy with these things other than keeping it up to date security wise and running regular weekly maintenance, so after fooling around in safe mode I decided to reformat. My question is as in my subject line, if I have access do I need any of the SBC/Yahoo software as that is what apparently caused my problem. Thanks for any insight and suggestions.
