Our email servers do a reverse dns on the ip connecting to it. If your not using a Charter ip address and your host doesnt resolve to one of the hosts in our network it does not relay. This allows Charter to keep our server with no auth, and prevents people from exploiting it from outside our network. This means if your internet cafes or panera isn't using a charter address information does not get relayed and you're denied. This is the reason we furnished the webmail option for checking email when your not directly connected to a Charter network.
