[speed/latency] Moved and got 1.5Mbps instead of 3Mbps ~ Loop Di

Hello

I've read a couple of threads here where people have posted their "Loop Distance" and how Verizon Tech support tells they are just above the required distance in order to get 3Mbps/768kbps.

Is there a real number out there cause I'm thinking it varies or tech support likes to play around with people.

In my experience I had 3Mbps/768kbps on the previous phone# then I moved... Now they tell me I'm going to get 1.5/389kbps

So I've harrased them about it, asked them what my loop distance was and they told me 8677. So I proceeded to asking what was the required distance to get 3Mbps/768 and the first tech told me oh it's "8000". So I'm like dam..

I called again... and this time I went with the Buisness DSL side... Since my phone number magically qualifies for 3Mbps/768. The tech told me I had the same Loop distance (8677) and so I asked him what requirment was and he said "6000". What? Hmmm

Sorry for the long post perhaps but I would like some help please.

Should I continue to call them and request 3Mbps/768 based on my distance or do I really not qualify?

Thanks

I believe the distance required was 11k ft . And yeah, you should recall but ask for billing instead of Tech Support

It takes a few trys sometimes to get a CSR with half a clue. Call back to Billing and try again. Again 11k' seems to be the Consensus here for 3000/768. Oh the 6k' is a joke, I'm 7880' (per VZ) and I have 3000/768. CSRs ya gotta love'm

If only the Verizon CSRs worked this well.

My turn to harras and contribute to the "how many calls did it take to get 3Mbps thread" lol

Just to be sure...

Call the Billing Department and say...
I qualify for 3MBps Give it to me?

Anything special you guys/gals said to get it?

Just ask to check if you qualify for an upgrade.
And just out of curiosity, you are using a westell modem right?

Like everyone keeps saying over and over again. Billing is the only department than can actually tell you what you qualify for.

I have a friend who is at 10,000ft and he has 3.0/768....the only other thing could be that the quality of your lines in your area will not allow it.....

Moving can require you to wait for them to run an MLT on your new line before they'll give you 3.0. Can take 2-3 weeks to get it run and the database updated.

Yeah I have a Westel 327W

~ Well... the bad news just keep getting worse lol

So I was suppose to get my Blazing 1.5/398 yesterday on Tuesday but apparently theres no signal being sent here.

Today a tech came to the house and said I was at 19,000ft (18,000 limit with DSL)which is just crazy cause theres another phoneline in the house (upstairs) that has DSL and works just fine...

Then he tells me he's going to reffer the problem to other technitians so they can get in to some man holes and cut the distance in the loop so I can get DSL.. WTH lol

Daium... Now my phoneline doesn't work so I guess that maeans they are working on it...
Great cause other wise it would have been until Monday since they don't work weekends.

There are multiple wire pairs in any cable bundle and a subscriber can have several pairs in the NID. So it is completely possible due to wire quality for one pair to have a different EWL than another one.

Remember, it is the capability to carry a DSL signal that is being measured not actual length.

See if they can pick the best pair for the DSL so you can get the service speed you want.

All the best.

Ok I got my DSL fixed today

Here are my modem/line stats I guess:

Now to see if my loopdistance has changed so I can get 3Mbps/768

Srry but what's the diffrence between the interleave path and the fast path?

Are there any requirements to get it appart from making a ticket and all.

your stats look pretty good. You might even qualify for 3/768. It's much much better than my 1.5.

Fast path's suppose to improve your ping times and such. So far from what I've read, getting it changed might take a few calls, since lot of those Verizon techs are clueless script readers.

for much of the country, the limit seems to be about 12,000 ft., though other factors can affect your eligibility. on the face of it, it looks like you should qualify, and i'd suggest if you get no joy, ask to speak (rather firmly ) with Retention. and nudge, nicely. then not so nicely if needed .

Re: [speed/latency] Moved and got 1.5Mbps instead

Well I called back Verizon after my line was fixed and DSL was installed.

They told me I had the same Loop Distance (8677 something like that) and I asked what was the required distance to have 3Mbps she said that it just wasn't available in my area. It wasn't available in the Data Center I guess.

So I said... If it were available then would I qualify, so it's not because of my distance that I can't have 3Mbps it's because it just isn't available in this area... She said Correct...

So I asked to be put in some type of waiting list that way when it was available they would inform me of it.

Sigh

FYI I'm in NY - 11096

gotta repeat my suggestion to call retention---if you're really 8677 ft. from the CO, and in nyc, you should be able to get 3 Mb. if retention says it's not available, then i'd accept that. i thought (perhaps erroneously) that all of nyc had 3Mb. for those close enough to the CO, and 8700 feet is definitely close enough. interesting to find out.

That's strange that they say it's not available in your area... the only possible reason for this is if you are on a RT (remote terminal) that hasn't been upgraded yet.
