If Comcast would stay at 1.1, speeds may be obtainable. If they upgrade to 2.0, the 1.0 modems suffer greatly and the 1.1s are dicey.

I'm very ticked off about the prices. I don't watch much TV, so I'd be paying almost $10 more a month to RETAIN the same tier I have now (4mb) This might just make me move to Qwest since Comcast refuses to give current customers any discounts in my area. I just can't explain how ticked off I am right now

There is another higher tier coming, looks like its been delayed. Was pretty much supposed to be 15/768, later bumped to 15/1. No clue as to why the change.
As for that modem compatibility list...i'm honestly not quite sure why we continue to post that drivel since I only work locally and not on a corp level. Personally I think it's a way to push people into upgrading to newer 2.0 modems since slowly but surely we are upgrading systems to 2.0 readiness.

I Called Comcast(Washington DC Area) and this is what they tell me.
I have basic cable price will stay the same and my speed will go up to 6/384 for 42.95. For 52.95 I can get 8/768.
If you have basic cable you get the upgrade FREE OF CHARGE. |

These higher tiers will mean nothing if people are either moving away from Comcast, or trying to stay at the minimum. Comcast would be better off creating lower tiers that could compete with DSL while still retaining services that would appeal to people who can afford the speed.
EDIT: as to the price reductions with some form of cable TV service, don't expect it to stay that way for long. Cable prices have been known to rise, so whatever you save now, you'll most likely be paying with a little extra later |

I am really starting to care less about my download speed, im at around 9 right now because of those oregon tests, upload is what you want and of course upload is what they never give you, truth of the matter is the more upload you have the faster you will see things load, the lower ping you will get in games etc |

I would think that Comcast would want to make a move to ween the DOCSIS 1.0 modems off of their system in conjunction with the new bandwidth offers, if for no other reason than better local network management through QOS implementation introduced with DOCSIS 1.1. |

There is no ping difference between a 256Kbps upload versus a 1Mbps upload, what matters is the routing and peering agreements that the cable or dsl provider has. |

Iv'e already said why Comcast won't offer lower tiers. We always have updated "bronze" tiers sitting on the TFTP server, the issue is as of right now there is no reason to offer them. Our churn is surprisingly low, and customers continue to sign up in droves for the current tiers. So all offering a lower tier will do is push some current customers to changing to lower priced tiers.
You can expect lower tiers once the rate of new subscriptions drops off.

When will comcast get the hint that people want MORE UPLOAD.
There is a development going in nearby and I am hoping the FOIS comes to our neighborhood.
If it does I'm gone. Fiber and DirecTV, what a wonderful combination.
