Will they remotely reboot our modems or do we have to do so manually? |

I'm on the 6mbit tier and this speed is about average for this time of the day (I get 6mbit early in the morning). I also did it off of the Washington DC server instead of NY since it gets less utilized. Where is the roll outs dates? -- Comcast HSI 6.0-768 / ATT CV - VOIP / »www.TalkABoutVoIP.com my VoIP page! |

| reply to imrf said by imrf :Do you have a router in the mix? There is an issue with the 4100s and 4200s and routers with 10Mbps WAN ports, and the combo not topping 5.5Mbps. I know plenty of people that have 4100s and 4200s with Comcast's 6Mbps package and get the advertised speeds all the time. I have no router. I don't know what to say. Maybe luck of the modem? -- Freedom of expression should not be hampered by the unwillingness of others to accept things.-NinjaMaster |

| reply to SuperNet33 Rumor has it (a few pages back) that things will happen tommorrow at midnight. I've seen some sick speed reports from west coast metro areas already (25 mbps around SF, 10mbps in PDX). All you have to do is see the recent speed results from comcast.net and sort by speed.
In my own area, I can easily burst 12 mbps from speakeasy's site, but I get throttled like crazy after a second or two. The infrastructure is clearly already there, the switch just needs to be flipped. |

| reply to Morac When I upgraded to gold from silver, they did while I was on the phone. I know this because I was talking to tech support over VoIP and the modem rebooted (killing the call in the process, obviously) .
when they upgrade, they push the config to the modem and it automatically reboots. At least, that's what happened with the SB5100, YMMV. |

I think you are pulling harder than they can push. I could be wrong... |

| reply to dadkins I can barely get 2.5 Meg and this is with the "new" 4 Meg upgrade.
The funny thing is, I got more speed at 1800/256 than I do now. At the time I got comcast 2 years ago, they were testing the area for 3mb down and I pulled around 2600 - 2800 for a few weeks then back down to 1800. When the rollout came for 3 megs down, I got fine speeds and hit the caps.
Then all of a sudden I can't get any higher than 2.5, sometimes I hit 3.1 but rarely.
So, I am not expecting much from this new rollout at all. We'll see. |

| reply to imrf said by imrf :You do realize that both satellite companies raised the rates once each year for the last two years, right? Regulating the cable companies won't help as much as you think it will. Look at the rip off prices people pay for regulated phone service. Yah, but even with the rate hikes, i only pay $50.00 for tv + tivo. Closest comcast package in my area is $71.97 ($61.98 for tv, 9.99 for dvr). -- "I'm not bright, big words confuse me, I have the attention span of a rodent and Wanda loves me anyway! Will the current 4Mb service go up to 8 Mb with no price increase, or is this tier increasing to just 6 Mb? For standard or digital CATV customers, 4 is going to 6 without a price increase or to 8 for $10 more per month. drat somehow I was under the impression that having a digital package would give you an upgrade. I'm on digital silver with two boxes(one hdtv dvr) + analog basic and expanded. On the hsi side the silver 4meg/384k plan. I was looking forward to the 768k up :/ |
