GDM,

Most customers on this tier will be automatically upgraded to the faster 8Mbps/768kbps, which is the new premium tier Comcast is marketing. We will, of course, grandfather and continue to support any existing 6/768 customer who is currently paying for this service and wishes to keep it.

With a basic Cable TV subscription through Comcast, the 8/768 tier will be $62.95/month. The only exception would be a customer who falls under the description of your first question, where some customers may be automatically upgraded to this speed for the $52.95/month price.

Personally I think it's stupid and typical comcast fashion. |

It is basically giving Non-cable subscribers MORE choices to make (and in turn, pay less than they would).
You can keep what you have now - pay $10 more for 6 meg, or pay $20 more for 8 meg. -- "ONE team - ONE city - ONE dream!!" |

| It's stupid because I can guarantee you that the grand-father crap won't hold true. If they were going to give us choices they would keep the gold tier at the same pricing structure it has always been.
How is it fair for them to raise prices??? Explain to me how any of this for non-cable people is fair. |

| It's a business tactic, plain & simple to try and get more of the non cable tv subscribers to subscribe to at least expanded basic or pay more. I am not downright supporting the increase in pricing for non cable tv subscribers but can see where comcast is coming from. |

| reply to gdm Hmmmm...... I subscribe to basic cable and have the 6000/768 speed tier for an additional $10.00. If I'm reading Jason's comments correctly, it's now going to cost another $10.00 (in addition to the FIRST $10.00) to keep my 768 upload!!

Am I missing something? |

| reply to Just Waiting No you wont have to pay an extra 10 dollars. It says clearly if you are a non cable tv customer it will be an extra 10 dollars for 6 mb and an extra 20 for 8 mb. Its been the same its always been where non cable tv users pay extra for internet.
Basically the upgrade is only affecting cable tv subscribers free of cost. If you are non cable and are currently at 6mb you will have to dish out another 10 for 8 mb. For the same price you do get to stay at 6mb. The only issue i see with this is that your upload will be decreased and you still will be paying the same. |

| No it's not it's changed. The new 6meg only has 384 upload and the 8meg goes to 768. Supposedly we will be grandfathered but I don't trust that will happen.
Also if a new non CATV person subscribes to HSI for $10 $67.95 more they get 6/384 and $20 $77.95 they get 8/768. |

I'm still a bit unclear (mostly due to Jason's use of "may be". We pay $52.95 for 6/768 HSI plus $15 for limited basic cable.
Assume sometime in the future the upgrade comes and I don't do anything. Do I: a) pay exactly the same amount and get the exact same service speed? b) get upgraded to faster speed and get charged $10 more c) get upgraded to faster speed and pay more money d) get downgraded to lower upload (same download) and pay the same?
B and D would put me consistent with the normal future pricing, whereas A and C both fit the term 'grandfathered'. -- -Ryan Computational Engineering Student looking for BioMedical/Computational BioEng internship. PM me if you know of any available! |
