Re: Success with WRT54GX Firmware on Belkin Pre-N!

Maybe if Belkin hears that customers are turning their Pre-N routers into Linksys devices, they'll step up their efforts to fix their firmware. One could only hope.

IMO Belkin will be singing halleluiah tunes all the way to the BANK because as word of this firmware port spreads like wildfire F5D8230-4 sales will boom ... and Linksys will be mad as hell .... I suspect that Linksys will make some changes that may prevent their newer firmware from working on the F5D8230-4. This is defiantly to Belkin’s advantage --- why spend money a new firmware if theirs works better and my boxes are 25% cheaper?

Yep, I agree to an extent. In my past experience with Netgear/ZyXEL, ZyXEL put the kabosh on using their firmware on the netgear branded box because of customer support issues.

Re: Success with WRT54GX Firmware on Belkin Pre-N!

Ah well...that would be a shame. The Linksys firmware certainly offers better features overall, and the router logging is actually usable (although I still wish it offered the ability to autosave and/or email logs).

Hopefully Linksys won't do anything to block us from using the firmware until Sveasoft has their act together re: F5D8230-4. Then we'll have an alternate upgrade path to follow.
