$29.95 Credit Card Charges

I got this charge and I'm trying to get it removed from my statement. I had just logged into my visa management center to see if I had gotten charged yet for buying Harry Potter #6 for my sister. I hadn't, but then I noticed that there were two charges from July 9th that I did not recognize. As I am sure I did not buy anything on July 9th, I was stupefied. I immediately sent them an email asking their customer service if they could help me out. They replied and asked me if I had signed up for any subscription services. The only one I had signed up for was my snapfilespro file downloading service, but that was $19.95. There was also a charge from dapay.com on there that I didn't recognize. I looked up this 888-596-9279 phone # and I noticed its with a lot of "Adult" type services. Stuff I WOULD not sign up for. This is making me mad. And my mom thinks maybe my credit card # was stolen from that Visa credit card processing center a few weeks ago. I hope not.

Since there were two charges of $29.95 each, does anyone think my credit card company will refund my $$?

Yeah, no problem. See the back of your statement and dispute the charges in writing. That is required, even though you're going to call, too.

Call in today and report your card number as stolen and request a new number. It will take a week or so, and you'll have new cards.

actually, my statement hasn't come yet. I wrote first to their online customer service in my management login and they told me after two messages that I should call them, so I did. And I disputed the charges and they said they'd cancel my # and send me a new # and any recent pending charges would be transferred. Its kind of sad that I had to get a new #, I've had that same account # since 1999. Anyway, they said they'd send me a questionaire to fill out that helps me dispute the charges. The charges on MY account were something called Dapay.com for $29.95 and then that CCBILLEU thing for $29.95.

They siad they'd forward the information to their fraud department. Interesting thing here - I used the contact form on Dapay.com and said I had charges on my card that I did not charge. And they actually responded back and told me to give them the account # and the name on the card.....yeah right I'll do that! I don't trust them.

Anyway, I'm glad I'm not alone on this. I just hope this new # is going to be well protected. And I hope it comes by next thursday or friday as I need to contact my website webhosting company and tell them I have a new card #.

This is very frustrating.

p.s. I did an adaware scan earlier and found dialers! I don't use dialup internet but this was still a concern. I wonder if I might have picked it up when I visited dapay.com or one of the websites affiliated with that CCBILLEU phone # thing.

Both dapay.com and ccbilleu are billing services for porno sites. Sounds like somebody got ahold of your card info, unless you maybe have a hormonally-challenged teenager in the house??

No, I do not. Maybe there was something with that dialup malware that I just discovered with Adaware and removed? :o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o

doubtful... dial-up malware usually calls a list of 1-900 numbers and racks up your phone bill.

Re: $29.95 Credit Card Charges

well, I'm very careful with my credit card and I don't know how someone could have gotten my information. I'm waiting to hear about the fraud investigation results. Probably won't get that for awhile. But I do wonder what address and such they will have used or something.

I wonder if it was an employee from Walmart, Best Buy or even Target......... The last time I bought from Best Buy I used gift card & cash but I bought from Target on July 4th.....and 6th.........and used my credit card.

I am very lucky I don't have a dial up modem hooked up. I use Cable Internet.

Your credit card number could have been compromised by any number of ways...like you said, a store employee or someone at a restaurant could have taken a copy of the card; one of the recent credit card account thefts could have included your card; a site you made a purchase on (even a long time ago) got compromised, etc. Or the criminals could have gotten lucky and just found a number that was alive and well.

In any event you are protected if you dispute the charge with your cc company and request a new card. Be aware, though, some cc companies transfer new charges to the new account (although the shouldn't); keep an eye on your new card number statement.

The only charges they are transferring are the BN.com charge, the most recent target store charge and a charge for pcmagazine's file download archive. (At least that's what they said they would do.)

It is worth repeating.
While that is all they will transfer initially, as Mordacray stated, do keep an eye on your new card statement. If any charges come in against the old card after cancellation they will roll over on to the new card, at least for the first 60-90 days. I know it defies logic, however, it is an automated process, and credit card companies are not the most logical group around.

So do check your new card statements, and remember that if fraud charges show up you can confirm if they are roll overs before suspecting if the new card is compromised.

its already happened - the same charges appeared, but they were quick to credit back so I never got charged......and these weren't the original credits.....these were new credits on new debits!

Oh man, this really stinks.......and my new card # better come soon. I need to inform my webhost of the credit card # change.

What's even more disturbing is I've used my CC at a few places recently which JUST handed me back a receipt! No signature needed, or anything?

Lemme get this straight... you hand somebody a piece of plastic. 99% of the time, they don't check the name with any identification and now most don't even require a signature! No PIN number required... just a "Thank you for shopping at ##### sir, have a nice day!" Wow... no wonder crooks are having a hay-day with credit cards! VERY scary... if you ask me!

certain transactions under $25 do not require your sig. You are not reponsible for them if they are not yours.

@swbell.ne

I too recieved fraudulent charges in this amount in July of 2005. The company was scriptstore...951-922-0465...I didn't purchase anything from them and when I called all I got was an answering machine. My CC are now cancelled.

BE AWARE OF SUSPICIOUS $29.95 CHARGES....it's happening everywhere.
