How stupid is that? 100.000 angry people? There are about 50 angry people and they all write in this forum...
If the deal is a scam, how come 47.000 more people registred since 1'st of august? The original promise of full featured software to the first 100,000 was not delivered. That made a lot of people angry.
Don't assume that just because there are no angry people in the Alibre forums that they don't exist. If you're not a fanboy or you complain, they remove your post and ban you. I noticed that many people in the Alibre forum think we just went away. They have no clue.
As for the last 47,000 (if that's even a real number) they are getting what's being offered, a feature limited demo that calls home. Not a promise of something else.
If you have no privacy concerns and security is not an issue, you fall into the demographic that Alibre is targeting. Sadly, that's still too many users. Hang out in some security forums and check out the people posting HJT logs. These are generally users from the same demographic group. |

Qutoe of entire post:
"Don't start with you? Nothing was directed towards you, unless you have a vested interest in Alibre.
This software is bordering on malware. No CAD software needs to call home constantly, period. If you want *REAL* CAD software, AutoCAD. I bet it won't call home the whole time you have it open either.
Don't get me started on Linux, you want to use it, deal with it. No Linux Distro has anything that will do what I wish it to do. But this is about the Alibre, not Linux/open source.
Use this crap if you wish. It's adware and neutered, nothing like what was stated it would be.
Your choice. Live with it." |

THAT actually answers my question. I was not aware of that option, and now that I am, I may decide to act on it. I guess I was so ready for X-CAD to turn out to be NOTHING that I was glad to just see that it is something at all. I am still curious as to what dadkins uses, since he gave me no other options.
whether I will play with Alibre Design Express anymore? I don't know. As I mentioned, there isn't anything I'm worried about them finding out.
Alibre had a great marketing campaign, but perhaps we will see that it hurts them more than helps them in the future, due to the nature of the product.
I hope that Alibre either get's smart, or gets sunk.
Thank You All! |

Call em like you see em Doc!
Personally for me, I find it noteworthy that Alibre has earned themselves quite a reputation for this. As seen here;
And here
»www.google.com/search?hs=oLR&hl=···G=Search
That just warms my heart to know that anyone who does their homework on the company in the future will likely be forewarned. -- The difference between foresight and hindsight is only a matter of when you bother to think things through. Know about something stupid? |

| reply to OmniUni Before I'd spend a single dime with Alibre, I'd buy this for one fifth of the Alibre price of turning off the ADs.
"TurboCAD Deluxe 9.2 + FloorPlan 8" Our Regular Price $14.95
Now Only $6.99 »www.NothingButSoftware.com/prms/···&ai=1955
I'd even get one of these before Alibre.
TurboCAD Deluxe 9.2 + free Upgrade to v10 included Original List Price: $99.95

Or
TurboCAD Professional v6.5
Your Price: $39.95 »www.nothingbutsoftware.com/catal···de=26010
Or
DesignCAD Express 15 Original List Price: $79.95
Your Price: $28.95 »www.nothingbutsoftware.com/catal···de=31914
The people behind Alibre are dishonest and shady based on their "bait and switch" + the "smoke and mirrors" campaign for this garbage-ware that was supposed to be equal to software costing thousands. Adware doesn't compare to any software that you would pay for. They completely misrepresented what they were offering as they knew ahead of time that 100,000 people would have never signed up for ADWARE!!! How stupid is that? I know of zero products *sold* that come with Adware. I would never do business with a company that thinks that is normal for business. AT best, their whole program is Scamware.
Like Enron before them, I see their future being short lived. That's the only good thing.

actually. I DID get a response:
If you purchase the ad-free package, this will also allow you to work offline. Right now that is the only option that we have, but we might plan on further changes as the demand increases.
How can I remove the Ads? Contact our sales department at 972-671-8492 x284 or you can purchase this option online at »https://www.alibre.com/xpress/store/purchase.aspx.
Thank you, Alibre Xpress Support
it isn't ideal, but it IS a response.
Dadkins: you've got me stumped! what kinda OS and sofware do you use? What CAD? Well? I as curious as @#$% now!
to everyone: well, let's not slack off now! it seems we're giving them a hard time, so let's keep it up! |

Well,
I decided to try it on a test machine. It is a machine loaded fresh with Win XP SP2 and nothing else. First thing was the jave vm. Downlaoded and installed it and rebooted. Now when I try to install the Alibre design, I get: The java virtual machine cannot be loaded error message.
Go figure. |

| reply to OmniUni Well, I pretty well solved the problem as far as I'm concerned: I downloaded it, as was my right under the agreement.
Nothing says I ever have to use it ... so there it sits, uninstalled. And if I decide, perhaps in a moment of total senility, a drug induced haze, or just a lapse into the world of "screw it, I don't care who knows how much about anything I do who needs personal privacy anyhow" for a microsecond and do decide to install it, then the key code had damned well better still be working.
Personally, for folks who really, really, really need it and are willing to put up with the BS invasion of your world and the limitations placed on it, then by all means have at it.
But I'll get my get-evens one day. Sooner or later some engineer is going to ask me for a good CAD tool and I'm going to stand right up and point proudly at AutoCAD, with AutoCAD Light as his second choice and probably with some comment like "whatever you do, stay the heck away from Alibre, nice software, but the morals of a starving swamp rat - but that's just a personal opinion you understand". -- BEAT IT, BILL! KIA!! |

| reply to dadkins Look, I joined this forum because I am a STUDENT who would really like a good 3D cad. I DON'T CARE WHAT OS it's on or WHO made it.
Truth be told I WOULD BE EXTATIC IF I FOUND A GOOD, 3D CAD with NO ads that ran on LINUX.
If you don't think I am a Linux Geek, find me on fedoraforum.org or KDE-Look.org. And if you think I'm not who I say I am, find me on pronetworks!
Despite the fact that everyone keeps trashing Alibre (and since I haven't gotten a response yet, I'm getting annoyed with them too) what we all really want is a software that can do what we were told X-CAD would do.
dadkins: good micro$soft! don't start with me, I'm on your side, remember? What I said, I meant! I would love to dump Alibre, just because I so much prefer the Open Source ideology!
A note on Alibre: I still give them a lot of credit. They had a brilliant marketing campaign. Their software works well. On the other hand, however, it IS adware. It is BARELY what was promised. Most importantly, they have NOT answered my email!
Bottom Line: Rather than being a "Bash Alibre" post, lets be a "Solve the Problem" post. |

To OmniUni, I cannot find any CAD software that is equivalent to that steaming pile.
All of the other CAD software I have looked at doesn't have ads and doesn't call home constantly. So, yeah... Alibre Design express is in a class all it's own!
I'll say it again... It's crap! |
