| [modem/router] Westell 327W router on verizon
hello, I got a Westell 327W gateway hooked with my verizon and i been trying for days to figure out how to make it into a simple dsl modem, i don't want to have internal ip, no ports blocked, no packets dropped a simple connection straight from my box-to dsl modem-to internet.
I tried various thing such as enabling static nat for my desktop, i tried single static ip, both together and then i did indeed get a real ip on my box but the dns servers were still the routers i do not want to depend on the router-simply the dsl modem.
I also tried a different way to make my connection to the verizon dsl and this worked but my desktop box had 1 ip and the router had another which i tested on my wireless laptop and sow it was different. I am aware that each isp usually gives you 1 ip so i do not want to be in violation of the TOS.
My question is, is there a way to completely disable the router and simply make it a dsl modem, if not how can i make it so it does not drop packets, or filters any data on the router, nor slows down my connection. I rather have a real ip, real dns etc on my main desktop.
My last question is what ports is verizon dropping(blocking) connections inbound or outbound or both.
Thank you for any follow up messages that will help me resolve the issue |

If you're in an exBA area, then incoming port 80 is blocked. You can search this forum (upper right corner at the top of the main page for this forum) for: blocked ports for a couple of others I always forget. |

| I actually don't think that any other port is blocked out here in ex-BA. Just running a port-scan on myself without a firewall and a normal modem brings up all open ports except 80. -- The one, the only, the Insder. :: Verizon Online DSL (2793/719) and Deer Alpha Firefox! |

| reply to user6 All you need to do is follow the steps in the Westell FAQ which will result in putting the Versalink into bridge mode by turning off DHCP, DNS services and changing VC1 configuration from 'routed bridge' to 'bridge' mode.
You will just get one WAN IP and will not be in violation of the TOS. -- Always Reach Beyond Your Grasp |
