| [Wireless] Newbie - WRT54G wireless bridge
I am tryting to use one WRT54G as a wireless bridge. I can ping from one Router 1 to Router 2 (and the other way), but I cannot ping from router 1 (using PC1) to the Tivo attached to router 2. When I hook my laptop up to router 2 (wired) and can ping the Tivo fine.
Here is the setup:
Router 1 (WRT54G) Firmware Version : v4.00.7 (Linksys official) IP : 192.168.1.1 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 Wireless mode:mixed b +g (normal) Security: off (for now) Connected to the internet
Router 2 (WRT54G) Firmware version: Freeman 1.04 IP: 192.168.1.3 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 Wireless mode: client bridge Security: off (for now) Internet connection type set to "Disable" DHCP disabled Firewall protection is off
Tivo IP: 192.168.1.115 Subnet: 255.255.255.0
PC1 IP: 192.168.1.97
To be clear, PC1 is wired to Router 1, Tivo is wired to Router 2. Router 1 and router 2 ARE NOT wired together (wireless only). PC1 can ping both router 1 and router 2. When I attached a laptop to router 2 i can both access the Tivo via ftp and telnet to the AP as well as ping back to router 1.
I appreciate any help, let me know if there is any other information I can provide.
Thanks,

| In my experience w/ Alchemy (the predecessor to Freeman), devices connected behind the LAN ports of a "CLIENT" mode configured router run behind their own localized NAT'd firewall. In other words, there's a NAT'd firewall behind Router 1 and another NAT'd firewall behind Router 2. It is this NAT behind NAT which I believe is preventing PC1 on Router1 from pinging the Tivo on Router2. The WAN port of Router2 should be running on the same network as Router 1 though.
So, assuming the Tivo is connected to one of Router 2's LAN ports, try connecting it to Router2's WAN port.
If you want all 4 LAN ports on Router2 to be part of the same network as Router1, you'll need to switch from "CLIENT" mode to WDS mode. This will require you to run WDS capable firmware on both routers (i.e. you may need to install Freeman on Router1 as well).

| reply to HUGE2U hi!
As far as I know, you cannot configure the wrt54g as a wireless repeater mode. This is because WRT54g, which is the linksys wireless router doesn't have any bridging capability. Now if you really wanted to have a bridging functionality, stick with your first router(wrt54g) and use the Wet54g.
