[request] Don't send IM if replying to own post

Just a small request - if the user has Reply Notification set to "IM" for posts, can we have it modified to not get the IM if one replies to one's own post?

I'm 100% with you on this point. I posted the very same request some time ago (but I can't find the darn thing now! )

It just doesn't make sense to notify you that you just posted a reply in your own thread. Of course there's a reply to my thread... I put it there!

I don't see the point of this.

If the IMs from replying to yourself are onerous, then you are replying to yourself far too often.

You want to keep this behavior so you can test out your IM checker app or script? That's a valid reason.

You must be unaware of the many discussions in which, if one is the thread starter, and one wants to add a general reply not directed to any particular person, one replies to the thread. Being the thread starter, that means one is replying to oneself, generating a "your post has a reply" IM.

Although, for debugging my IM Checker, inducing a system IM by replying to myself came in handy. Much easier than saying "Hey, send me another IM" every few minutes.

Otherwise it's a small annoyance and logically it shouldn't be too hard to test if the poster and the replier are the same and not send a PM. You can't send PMs to yourself (well, actually you can) so it doesn't make sense to get a notification if you reply to yourself.

I agree - it's great for testing.

Can you send yourself an IM? If so, I want to cuss myself out and then block IMs from myself. And then ignore my own posts.

I replied to my own post, for whatever reason, and don't need to be made aware of that fact.

Because there is no reasonable or rational reason to object...

I am with you, your post makes prefect sense, and it should help lower bandwidth.

ONLY, if there can be a setting to turn it off, for testing purposes.

Hey, has this been implemented? I just replied to myself in another thread and did not get a system IM.
