| Does your ISP have virus scanning at the server?
I wanted to post a poll, but I do not see a way to do that. Maybe posting a poll is a premium option?
Anyway my question, what I am curious about, is now many people's ISP's have virus scanning on their email servers? If so, is virus scanning at the server level common in your area? If your ISP has virus scanning at the server, did that effectively stop incoming virus attachments in your experience?
In my case, my ISP as well as all of the ISP's in my area started virus scanning at the server level about two or three years ago. Before then, I could usually count on getting ten or twenty infected emails within the first few days after each new mass mailing worm virus emerged. Fortunately my antivirus program, NAV, always caught them. I haven't received a virus infected email since my ISP started the virus scanning. I rarely even receive notice of a stripped infected attachment any more. |

Earthlink does virus scanning at the server level and strips any viruses before it gets to me. Very effective. I haven't gotten a virus through email yet. -- Spread Internet Explorer! - The browser you can trust to not have those annoying Firefox twits pushing it! |

My ISP (RoadRunner) scans with Symantec. Here's what the results look like
"ALERT!!! This e-mail in its original form contained one or more attached files that were infected with a virus or worm, or contained another type of security threat.
The following attachments were infected and have been repaired: No attachments are in this category.
The following attachments were deleted due to an inability to clean them: 1. bill.zip: W32.Netsky.P@mm
The Following attachments were not delivered due to inbound mail policy violations: No attachments are in this category.
Road Runner does not contact the sender of the infected attachment(s) in the event that they were not actually sent from the indicated party.
Please contact the sender directly to alert them of their issue with infected files if you wish to do so.

| reply to Mowergun CableOne.Net offers email scanning services before it gets to your machine. I have seen it stop mail at the server level and notify the recipient via email. -- You never know what is enough until you know what is more than enough. ~William Blake 5.631ghz |

| reply to Mowergun I use Yahoo Mail and GMail. Both have AV scanning and will show you the original e-mail they won't allow you to download with their tools, but you could POP it out. I also have Wide Open West (WOW) but don't use the e-mail accounts. -- I have two favorite sports teams, University of Michigan and whoever is playing Michigan State. |

I own a small ISP, but growing pretty rapidly.
I am thinking about investing in Postini (scans for email/virus at the server level), does anyone here have access to it, and if you do, do you like it and use it?
Thanks |

Roadrunner in Austin Texas does. This agrees with other RR posters above so it may be true of all the divisions.

said by Inernetjunky :I have Comcast, and I believe they use Brightmail by NAV. I think that's the name. Isn't Brightmail an anti-Spam product, and not an AV? I have had virus-infected emails get to my Comcast Inbox (which my dersktop AV then made short work of). |

| reply to Mowergun SBC does too I have had a lot of e-mails coming from people that I do not know infected with viruses and SBC stops them. My local ISP uses Vircom ModusMail, but I don't use that email account. Mainly I use my own POP accounts through my webhost that has Clam AV, SpamAssassin, and Boxtrapper.
Vircom does have some nice products though IMO. »www.vircom.com

My primary ISP Covad uses F-Prot for server side email AV scanning.
My secondary ISP Comcast does not appear to do server side email AV scanning, but outsources the responsbility to the customer by offering the McAfee VirusScan program free to subscribers. -- We can never have enough of nature. | reply to Mowergun Using Rogers here. They seem to have a very good virus scanner. After they joined with Yahoo, a lot of spam has been tagged with "[Bulk]" in the subject! Very nice This is perhaps the only good thing about Rogers (other than the browsing speed). They now use Geocities as the customer's webspace provider, putting their Rogers email in the URL to their personal site, and are now using Giganews as their newsgroup provider. (With caps set at 30 kB/s...it takes almost 3 hours to get the headers for an average size group -_-) |

My resident AV has flagged several e-mail viruses in just the past few weeks. I do believe though that Yahoo scans the SBC web mail service with NAV. |
