1 edit | [POLL] Which Software Firewall Do You Use? Hello,
After posting anti-malware and antivirus polls, it is time for another security related poll, the one about firewalls. First, Id like to congratulate all members who already posted their polls on job well done, as well as to those who voted and decided to leave a comment, thus providing us with valuable information which will later help mods in updating FAQs. And second, thanks to the mods for starting this great initiative and allowing members to get involved.
I tried to be as comprehensive as possible while making this list, and keeping it simple. I am aware not everything out there is included. This is primarily software firewall poll to see what your preferred choice is. Should solution you use not be on the list, please choose option Other and tell us more about it. Posting about features not found elsewhere, your experience, and links to it would be welcome. Some firewalls come in free/pay versions, and some of you use older rather than newer versions of certain firewalls. Distinction between those is not visible in the poll, and providing that sort of info in your post is appreciated.
Thanks in advance to everyone for participating and to members/mods helping me in preparing this.

Configured it properly and didn't leave to it's defaults when installed. I have it running on all my boxes from Win 98SE to XP Pro. |

 | reply to richter35 I've used several in the past, but they always just seem to get in my way. I'm behind a hardware firewall and am confident in my other layers of security, so I've eliminated the software firewall for now. -- my website: »www.utdallas.edu/~bal023000 |

I've used the free version for years, it does the job and gives me that extra feeling of security knowing it will block something going out (although I've never had anything get in to try and get out).

| reply to richter35 Was using KPF 2.15 until several (many) BSOD's related to KPF. Since I'm behind a router and do not use IE as my main browser nor OE for my mail client, and with all the other security programs running, I feel fairly safe. But, there is always room for improvement and this poll may give me something to look at in the coming weeks.
Thanks goes to my fellow pollster richter35 for a fine poll this time around. -- PROUD TO BE HOST OF CRUNCHENSTEIN #2 |
