| Setting up 2 routers
I need help setting up 2 routers. Here is the configuration I need.
I want to go from my cable modem>>>to a wired linksys RT31P2 Vonage router>>>>>to a wireless WRT54G wireless router.
When I hook this up, it doesn't seem to work. I am using the vonage router only for my phone service and I want it first in the chain, then out to wireless router to feed the internet to the rest of the computers on my network. I can go from cable modem to vonage router and get phone signal, but it doesn't seem to feed internet signal to the wireless router...Any suggestions or instructions?? |

| reply to sward445 If you connect the WRT54G WAN port to a RT31P2 LAN port with a straight-through cable, you should have no problem.
Be sure the WRT54G WAN subnet is different from its LAN subnet.
When you connect a computer to the WRT54G in this configuration, what is the IP address of the computer? What is the WAN IP address of the router? -- NOTHING justifies terrorism. We don't negotiate with terrorists. Those that support terrorists are terrorists. |

| reply to sward445 Ok, I got this set up, all computers on my network connect to the internet. I have my wireless router configured as an AP. I changed the IP address on the wireless router. Now, I cannot access that router with the new IP address. Cannot access it with the old one either. Why is this? I tried hooking wireless router directly to PC and still cannot access it. Does anyone know why? |

You may have to reset the router to its factory defaults and start over. -- Jim Anderson |

1 edit | I am not really sure what you mean about the same subnet as the rest of my network. The default on the router was 192.168.1.1 and I changed it to 192.168.1.200, maybe I don't have it right. It did let me access it when I first set it up. Also, the wireless PC's on my network frequently lose connection like every 10 or 15 mins, they just won't stay connected, may have something to do with that IP I assigned it. Can someone help me out with how to give the router an IP address on the same subnet as the rest of my network? |

| You need to change the LAN IP address of the wireless router to 192.168.15.x address that doesnt conflict. If you have to reset the router to get access to it be sure to disable its DHCP server as well as changing its IP address. -- Jim Anderson |

| OK I did that, and it seems to be working. Can I set the wireless security settings in my wireless router using this setup. I set it for secured WEP access and changed the router name. The settings were saved, but on the wireless network, it shows as unsecured and the SSID is still "linksys" |

| The WRT54G supports WPA PSK. If all of your network cards support WPA PSK you should use WPA, not WEP. Your current setup should allow you to configure the router. I recommend accessing the router from a wired PC when changing the settings. -- Jim Anderson |
