I discovered that you cannot update if your windows is not original  Guess I need to call that damn Windows Center for my new serial number.(windows XP home original)
But if you turn automatic updates on, then you can still update. The bad thing is you cannot install updates customly  |

I found a way from an article to bypass the validation process just by using one javascript code.
Check it out.
If someone has tried it out, please let us know.

it did not work for me as well. however i have earlier downloaded the validation update (kb892130) from the microsoft site. when i try to uninstall it i can't find it in the list of programs in the 'add and remove programs' menu. any ideas on how to uninstall it? |

malaysia | It's an active x pluggin, you can disable it at open IE/tool/internet option/program/managed add-on/window genuine validation tool and disable it. |

found a website where one can update winxp using firefox without validating. read about it on another group and thought that i should share this. however before being able to update you would have to download a plugin for firefox (i assume that most people would be using ff from this forum). when it begins to scan your pc for files just allow it. it will then give you a list of updates and then you can choose wether to update or not.

this only apply to users who have Service Pack 2 installed in the PC .
For example, my case, only using Service Pack 1 , do not have the option to disable any Active X plugin since it is not in the Internet Explorer  |

You can even get the SP2 upgrade CD free from Microsoft website.. but it takes about 1month for delivery |
