| DGL-4300 connecting to an ADSL Router Modem
I already have a Draytek 2600 ADSL Router Modem which is providing my local network with NAT and SPI Firewall protection. It has 4 100Mb ports on it for LAN connections and the WAN connection goes into my ADSL Splitter. I have a fixed IP from my ISP.
Question : How can I connect the DGL-4300 to this unit or any ADSL Router Modem for that matter? I assume if I plug the DGL-4300s WAN connection into one of the 4 Draytek LAN ports it will get very confused as the port will already be Nat'd and offering the DGL-4300 a 192 address from the Draytek's DHCP Server

| IF your able to, follow my instructions for Qwests Actiontec modems. The procedure should be basically the same as alot of poeple do it.

If your ISP allows you to use PPPoE, you can do "bridge" mode which essentially turns the modem into nothing more then an convertor and your 4300 does the authentication and routing all by itself. Alot of ISP's however don't use PPPoE anymore

2 edits | Cheers. But it's pretty difficult to follow when I have such a different Router. The Draytek is a very unique beast, in that it lets you have multiple machines connected to it on your LAN some of which have public facing IPs and others which are NAT'd (Cisco routers do the same sort of thing). Great for hosting web servers at home on different IPs using VMware. I am therefore not using port forwarding as I don't need to.
However you have got me thinking ... I wonder if it would work by me turning off NAT altogether on the Draytek and let the DGL-4300 think it has one of my 8 public facing IPs on it's WAN port. The DGL-4300 can then do my NAT. Only problem though is the Draytek might prevent GameFuel from working successfully as the machines directly connected to the Draytek will be able to use my bandwidth as much as they like as the DGL-4300 will not be able to manage the traffic on the Draytek's ports just it's own.
ADSL in the UK doesn't support PPPoe so unfortunately bridging isn't an option.

Simply look into your routers instruction manual for setting "DMZ" and or Bridge mode" and go along with it. IF you didn't get one, look for one at your ISP's site or modem makers website. |

1 edit | Think I've got a way around it using your FAQ as a starter for 10 (sorry I should have said that the DGL-4300 doesn't arrive until tomorrow otherwise is would try this now)
I will set up the WAN port on the DGL-4300 with the Static option and use one of my public facing IP addresses that I have in my block of 8. It will then provide NAT on that IP address for anything I connect to the DGL-4300. My other public facing machines I will leave connected directly to the Draytek for hosting my websites.
I have also found that there is a DMZ port on the Draytek similar to your router so if the above fails I will follow your instructions and configure mine identically.
Thanks for triggering my thought process. Will let you know if that works when my DGL comes tomorrow. |
