Linksys has posted a new firmware revision for the NSLU2. The release notes haven't been updated to reflect the changes in R63 as of yet. I loaded it up last night, and it has been running well. |

| Just installed it, upgraded from r29. I have never been able to get the email alerts to work. Hopefully this will solve that. I'd like to be notified when backups do not run due to somebody having open files on a particular share. Thanks for the info! |

| reply to slick55 I "unslung" mine not too long ago. The best thing about R63 is that it now supports NTFS and FAT. I doesn't matter to me because my disks are already formatted to ext3 but it's a good feature none the less. -- In memory of my Father, George Skuse Sr - 8/6/42 - 1/21/05. | reply to slick55 I loaded 23R63 last night on both of my SLUGS. One SLUG has 2 160 GB (used for music library), the other two 120 GB ( used for software archive and backups). They have drives formatted EXT3. The access was so slow afterward I reverted back to 23R29, and I do mean slow. Three minutes just to see them in My Network Places in XP, and ask for a directory and wait for anther 3 minutes. Anyone else have this problem? |

1 edit | No, but then I don't have thousands of files on mine. Maybe a a few hundred on the HD and upwards of a thousand on the flash drive. When the flash drive has up to a thousand files, it can take a few tens of seconds to display the directory with those files. The drives and the NAS are displayed in seconds in My Network Places.
Edit: How many files do you have on those drives? |

@fuse.net | I have 11,000 or so on the 160G drive (Music Library and Pictures). It is set for backup to the second drive. I can get to any file in about 1 second, until I load 2.3R63. |

| There is something that I noticed recently. I FTP snapshots every minute to my flash drive, then after a periodic review, they are deleted. There were never more than a thousand or so on the drive and usually less than 500.
My NSLU2 ran like this for about 10 days. After the total number of files processed (written, read, and deleted) reached about 6 to 9K, I noticed a significant slowdown in file access and read speed. After I power cycled the NSLU2, the speeds returned to what I consider their normal rate. |

| I have a 130GB and a 250GB hanging off the SLUG. The 130 is almost full and the 250 is fairly empty. I have no problems accessing files with my 2 WinXP Pro laptops, however my 4 WinME desktops have had lockups since I bought the SLUG; no matter what FW Rev I use. I attribute this to some incompatibility between ME and the SLUG. |
