I don't have it in Delaware County PA, using an SB4100 modem. I called several times, Comcast indicated that since I have a physical connection, 4.3 Mb is more than sufficient, click.
*** BOOTING *** SB4100-1.4.9.0-SCM00-NOSH
I have heard that is not the most up to date firmware. Can anyone confirm? Many users with SB4100 in PA seem to have the same firmware as referenced above, and those same users are not getting anything even approaching 6 Mb.

| reply to Sharps97 The SB4100 is fully capable at your software level of supporting the higher speeds. Here is my level and speed test results: Software Version: SB4100-1.4.9.0-SCM00-NOSH Hardware Version: 0 MIB Version: II GUI Version: 1.0 VxWorks Version: 5.3
Frequency 723000000 Hz Locked Signal to Noise Ratio 36 dB Power Level 1 dBmV Upstream Value Channel ID 6 Frequency 21584000 Hz Ranged Power Level 38 dBmV
Speakeasy Last Result: Download Speed: 6189 kbps (773.6 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 335 kbps (41.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
More than likely, due to some account record problem, you were deemed not eligible for the new 6000kbps speed. If you don't have more than basic cable TV(or their records think you don't), you won't get the upgrade loaded into your cable modem. -- My Web Page Join Red Room Forum |

1 edit | The SB4100 is fully capable at your software level of supporting the higher speeds. ------------------------------------------ In my case that was false. No amount of rebooting(weeks of it) would get over 3.9Mb. Yes, even with the router bypassed. The instant the SB4120 was plugged in, I had 6Mb. It now gets a steady 8.2Mb. |

1 edit | I couldn't get more than 4.4 on my customer owned SB4100. So yesterday I went down to my local comcast building and got an Ambit cable modem and am still getting 6mb and bursting up to 12mb. My point is that the SB4100 couldn't achieve the new speeds for me. |

1 edit | reply to Andrew J That's because you needed your account to be properly rebuilt. This issue has been discussed to great extent since the last round of upgrades. The 4100, 4200s, and 4220s are more than capable of handling the new speeds, it's just that accounts are messed up and are not sending the proper configs to those modems. |

| Well whatever the reason was, I was not receiving the new download speeds with the SB4100 and the tech on the phone even said that my modem had the new config file. So it was just not pulling the file, so I decided to get a new and better cable modem. |

| said by comcastfan11 : so I decided to get a new and better cable modem. I wouldn't call an Ambit modem better. IMO, the 4100 is still much better. But, that tech should have completely rebuilt your account, or if he could pass it on to the next tier to do it. It's simply an account issue, not a modem problem. Q can show you how fast the 4100s can go. |

Sometimes you get a tech that is good, and many times you don't. -- My Web Page Join Red Room Forum |

1 edit | reply to imrf Well It's giving me much better speeds than the SB4100 (which is old & antiquated) so if it can get the job done I would call it better. I'm getting speeds up to 12mbps currently. My local office didn't have Motorola or RCA cable Modems so they gave me a brand new, still in the package and box Ambit. |

I've had problems getting full download Gold tier speeds at my house. But when I take my modem/laptop to my parents house I consistently get full Gold tier 6.6 megs. We are both on the same headend but different hubs. So would the "account issue" you referred to be at the headend or the hub? |
|
imrf Premium join:2002-06-06 Utica, MI | Your issue different. It sounds like your hub has a capacity issue. In that case you would have to wait for Comcast to find the issue and fix it, and that can take some time depending on what the issue is. |

| reply to Sharps97 Thats the approved code and I did check and your running in DOCSIS 1.1 mode so there should be no problems with that modem. Can you post a throughput test result here please.

| reply to Sharps97 I had the exact same problem it sounds like, I spent months trying to solve the problem, thinking it was the ISP the whole time. Finally as a last resort I went out and bought a new SB5120 and it solved the problem! I was astonished that my SB4100 was actually the problem.
What I would do if I were you is go out and buy a SB5100 or SB5120 from best buy or somewhere similar, then take it home and set it up, then if it doesn't solve the problem just return it to best buy.
Good Luck. |
