So then a FAQ stating the following would be appropriate?

Set your TCP/IP configuration to "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" unless advised to otherwise by Charter Tech Support.

As a recent Charter subscriber I am fairly pleased.

BUT, my web surfing was sporadic (page not found errors) until I specified DNS addresses.

That would be a good FAQ post. If an IP adddress changed for a dns server (granted that happens rarely - but it does happen), the engineers would not typically notify residential customers because they should be pulling this information via DHCP.
