My wife just got a scam attempt via phone. She picked up the phone call and the person (with an Indian accent) told her that since she's such a good Discover Card member, she qualifies for a special offer. My wife knew immediately at this point to hang up.
Due to some prank calls that a couple of ex-students of my wife's tried a few weeks back, we had put anonymous call blocking on our phone. This means that you have to dial *82 to call us and your phone number (possibly your name too) will show up on our caller ID. Sure enough, this person's number showed up:
888-322-2785A quick
Google Search revealed that that number
was used for scamming in the past. She called Discover Card, reported it, and they put an alert on her account.
Chances are it was a would-be scammer or ID thief trying to pry more information out of her, but now at least Discover Card's fraud department is alerted to it. Has anyone else ever gotten a call like this?
