PeaPod redux

I previously posted about my PeaPod from Giant shopping experiences back in January. At that time I had not yet tried getting any produce from them. Well, I haven't gotten any fresh vegetables from them (not because of Peapod, but because, since fresh veggies don't keep very long, I tend to get them shortly before using them) but I have gotten some fruit and produce. So far I've gotten carrots, oranges, apples, grapes and blueberries and all have been quite satisfactory. They were all ripe, unbruised and as good as I would have picked out myself.

One other thing I have discovered is that, since you can tie your Peapod lists to your Giant discount card, items you buy at a local Giant store will appear on the PeaPod list even if they were not originally offered through the service. Very handy!

I've heard that Giant is in trouble financially due to competition from the huge discouters and boutique stores. I sure hope that PeaPod sticks around.

Wow, I have never ordered groceries through the internet only pizza! I see you're from Parkville - my sister lives out that way and swears by Mars, which is a chain we don't seem to have in Metro DC. So you find the convenience outweighs the delivery fee? For me grocery shopping just falls into the random on, the way home drill. Now if you have a thing for loose tea I can recommend »uptontea.com it is hard to find good not too expensive bulk tea locally.

We PeaPod'd for the first time last week... and I was pleasantly surprised. My wife set it all up, and all the produce looked good: apples, bananas, grapes, blueberries and peaches... along w/ some asparagus and broccoli.

Not to mention her not having to pack up the "little angels" and make the trek through the supermarket

Mars is strictly a local chain, originally in Dundalk. To be honest, they have long had the reputation as not being the cleanest of supermarkets or not carrying the best quality products, though they are certainly cheaper than Giant or Safeway.

The Parkville store is actually just a block or so from me. And the funny part is that neither of us is actually in Parkville. We're in Carney, outside the Beltway, but many databases just put all of my zipcode in Parkville.

And yes, I find the convenience far outweighs the $5.95 delivery fee. In fact, I rarely pay that much since I often have either a promotional discount or choose a delivery time which is offered for free. I'm not saying PeaPod is for everyone, but for someone who, for one reason or another finds shopping physically painful or inconvenient, it's a godsend.

Btw, I prefer Irish tea, especially Barry's Gold, and have found the selection I like best of both coffee and tea at Baltimore Coffee & Tea.

We started using PeaPod the moment I had to carry bottles of water up 4 flights of stairs. Yeah like that was going to continue...

Thus far everything we got (including produce) has been great.

Of course - we still go to Wegmans, but for regular delivery, it makes it sweet.
