 Anyone having Linksys Router Problems?

I had a Linksys router that was working perfectly, but the lightning zapped it out. I replaced it with a new one and can't get the thing to work. Two questions. 1) Could my cable modem have been slightly damaged in that it is powerful enough to operate with my computer, but can not give the router a strong enough signal? 2) Could OptimumOnline have made some changes? Any help is greatly appreciated.

is your router even registering along with the modem?

power cycle both at same time - turn both off wait a WHILE [10-30 mins] turn on a modem let it sync, then turn on linksys, make sure its in dhcp mode [for ip acquiring, not the dhcp server].

if not, try using the mac address clone thing in the linksys setup

I think that my house might be jinxed. I tried all of that stuff and have no luck. Any other possibilities?

Try without router then you will know if the modem is broken or maybe something else with the connection.

What exactly is the problem?

Does the linksys power light come on?

Do the link lights come on for your LAN attached devices? Does the link light for the WAN (modem) come on?

Does the switch component (LAN) work ok, and you are just having problems with broadband access?

Can you ping the router from a computer?

Can you get into the router setup?

Does it acquire an IP address ok?

Does it get DNS addresses?

Can you bring up the modem status page (if your modem has this feature)?

You may also find better help for this type of problem in the linsys forum - not likely it is an OOL-specific issue.

@optonline.net

quick question, i got the wireless router from linksys and i set everything up and it works for about 30 minutes then the modem itself resets and cant regain signal for about 3 hours after i unplug it from the router and back into the computer. i saw somone mentioned something about putting the mac number into the router, that may be my problem. how do i go about doing that? thanks

so your cable modem works with your computer but not with your router?

are the computers behind the router set to use the DHCP for configuration or static IPs?

can the computers see each other? [ping from computer one to computer 2 using its LAN [192.168.1.whatever] IP?

do this: when the cable modem is connected go to "status" page and copy/paste all info you see there.

littlehelp - RTFM!

but really, go into setup, then advanced and click on "mac clone" tab. enter the mac address of your modem there.
