:It seems that the HD's R/W Head has become Stuck to the Platters (aka: "Stiction"), preventing the drive from "Spinning-Up".

www.techimo.com/forum/t43161.htmlIn a nutshell, that 3-3-3 "Beep" that you're hearing is the sound of the HD's Head Actuator trying to become "Unstuck" from the Platters... (and Failing)

Some suggestions before Totally giving up on that HD:
1) Remove the HD from the PC, hold it flat in your hand, and give it a couple of sudden, sharp "twists" with your Wrist, which may cause the Platters to move (via inertia), and then try reinstalling the drive again.
2) If that doesn't help, Remove the drive and give it a couple of sharp "raps" (But Not *TOO* Hard!) on the SIDE of it's frame with your knuckle, or with a piece of wood or plastic, and try it again...
Hopefully, this will "Unstick" the R/W Heads, and the drive will be able to "Spin-Up" again...
If you're Successful in getting the HD to spin-up again, then BACK-UP your Data IMMEDIATELY, and get it replaced via an RMA from Maxtor, ASAP... You may or may NOT be able to do this trick successfully a Second time...

HTH, and Good Luck!

I heard the head swivel back and forth and I think it might have worked. I am going to get a HD tomorow and try to back up data. Now which do you think would be faster and best. Maxblast copy partition or windows enviroment using copy?
