| Missing Virus Definitions-Sysmantec Antivirus Corp
Ever heard of this weird error.
Missing Virus Definitions
Its very funny you see, when shutdown/restart the system right usually if there is program still running it will open a pop up box to cancel etc.. well ever since I installed Sysmantec Antivirus Corp into this new hdd/OS. I get this pop but... I get to see it only 1- 1 1/2 secs before windows shutdown/reboot without caring.
Here is the thing I uninstall and reinstall Symantec Antivirus its still the same problem... I never seen this back in other OS.

| reply to purelander How are you updating the AV? What is the exact error message i would manually update »securityresponse.symantec.com/av···oad.html to see if it removes the error message

| Ok manual update no difference. I even updated Live Update to v2.7.34. The Symantec Anti Virus Corporate Edition I am running is v10.0.1.1000
I manage to get screenshot of the error. It only happens when I shutdown the system or reboot it. The antivirus has no problems scanning for viruses or anything. This occurs only during shutdown or reboot. It will pop up for 1 sec or so before shutdown.

| If all you're getting is this "End Program" dialog box, I wouldn't worry. It looks like the application that detects missing definitions is taking a little while to shutdown, so, you get this notice from Windows, but, within that 1 to 1 1/2 seconds it does shut down. |

| reply to purelander I have three kids in college so I have them set up to use Symantec Corporate Edition AntiVirus (free from college). Two have version 9 and one has version 10 (just haven't got around to updating the first two). Anyway, one of the version 9's does this - doesn't seem to bother anything and I've run other scanners because I was a little concerned but I've decided to just ignore it. |

I wonder if it is somehow related to LU being enabled. Have you tried disabling LU and rebooting a few times to see if it still occurs? just grasping at straws -- Write your questions down on the back of a $20 dollar bill and send them to me |

| Since this is Corporate Edition, is it perhaps just looking for its "parent server" back at school and failing to find definitions on it?
There's also a NAVCE config file that you can reset for LiveUpdate issues; sorry don't recall the name. There was a separate managment utility for this a few years ago.

| reply to purelander As much as I hate to bump a thread this old, I am also having this issue on a Windows 2000 system.
I've tried updating definitions in safe mode. Also tried uninstalling/reinstalling -- no dice.

| I did both. No dice.
As much as I trust ranschultz's comment, I'm still a tad paranoid. Which antivirus works best side-by-side with SAV Corp. 10?
I'm thinking about just setting up AVG and letting them run together.

| Are there no files in "Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs\whateverdate" folder? When you double click SAV icon in taskbar does it display the engine and what definition file it is using?
maybe use AVG as on demand AV?

| It's using the latest - 11/21/05 rev6.
I know that it's working, too. I get tons of mytobb (sp?) emails on a daily basis and it finds those without any issues.
I'm just worried about it not getting the defs properly. -- AIM | B | irc.removed.us - #dslr | Give me a ring: 718-606-4100 |
