In addition, it can be made to rip cds to mp3 files using the Lame Mp3 encoder.
Lame download is available here. Then right click on the inf file, select install.
Necessary registry changes are below:

It encodes WMA files. MP3 may be better than WMA at a given bitrate, but many people can't tell the difference.
