|  Trend Micro Scan
On two different PC's I have, Win98 and WinXP I cannot get to the scan at Trend Micro. As you can see this from the screen shot this is as far as I can get. If I choose "next" I get a message which states, "HouseCall ActiveX component is not ready". I can go to other sites such as Symantec and run the scan after the ActiveX component successfully loads so I don't believe it is a ActiveX setting on both machines.
Any ideas?

I checked the ActiveX settings on both machines and they are set correctly. As I stated I can go to other sites then download and install the ActiveX components without any problems.

| Great alternative!!! At least I can get a online virus scan but it would be nice to get the spyware scan. It is odd that that European site does not have the same scanners as the US site.
Do you have any ideas as to why I cannot get the ActiveX components to load on the US site?

I had a problem getting Trend spyware cleaner to run on my XP and figured out what was blocking it:

Then, I found the problem. XP had the file blocked. I had to go into the file properties and unblock it, to allow it to run.
It was due to this:

Other online scans do in fact give this message if you forget to allow the Active X install. Now, mysteriously, and rather ironically, while writing this very post, the Trend Micro scanning engine has initiated "Active Update" and has installed. This confirms to me that it is NOT an Active X issue. But why after several unsuccessful months did it choose this very moment to work I wonder? |

When I go to the TM scan page I don't get the option to download the ActiveX component (see my screenshot) so I am not presented with the scan window that you got. Also, that "disable security warnings" does not apply here because I don't get that far and I am not running SP2 yet.
It is unusual that I face this issue with both my Win98 partition and the XP partition.
Any other ideas?

If the scan doesn't run, you can can right click and download the exe and then run it.

As you can see many different things can affect what is happening. I had the problem with Win98 and my XPSP1 using the online scanner from Computer Associates! It got fixed when I got SP2 and then the Trend-Micro wouldn't work LOL. (That's when I figured out the disable security warnings thing). Now both sites work for me.

That worked for me but not for CalamityJane. At first I thought I had the same issue as CJ but after almost 1 minute the "Scan" button finally appeared.
The only minor issue with this scan is that it does not give you the option of "what to scan" and since I have several partitions I don't want to scan it takes much longer than need be.
So, I now have two "work arounds" from Trend Micro, one for the Virus Scan and the other for the Spyware scan.
Any ideas as to how I can fix the ActiveX issue?

I get the same message as you do "HouseCall ActiveX component is not ready". The "spyware scan" works fine, but not the virus or security scans.
It works on my other XP SP2 machine...strange.
I gave up trying, however, I get a similiar situation with Panda's ActiveScan....it just keeps trying to load the activeX, so I have had to shut it off after 15 mins..... also strange.
I tried BD, and it works and loads its activeX.
I thought I was the only one having this problem...writing to TM did not give me any tangible results.
I have no answer for you ...

On your Win98 machine....C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files....the HouseCall Control does not say corrupted does it ? You might consider right clicking that control and selecting Update if you haven't already.
If the kill-bit is set....which that icon is usually an indicator of....you could look in the below reg key for HouseCalls ActiveX clsid and if there is an entry it will be 0x00000400(1024) if the kill bit is set.

I had a (MS)site refuse to d/l a page even tho I had my box wide open, ActiveX and java with no restriction. I had my privacy(cookies) set to high. When I lowered the privacy down to medium, I could open any page at the site. I've had 3 or 4 other sites do that to me too. Just my two bits worth.:) |

REG WORD 0x00000400 (1024)
Now what? Delete that entry and return to House Call?

That entry can be deleted....and you will definetly be one step closer in making HouseCalls ActiveX control work.
Just curious....what programs do you use that might set ActiveX kill-bits....excusing programs such as Spywareblaster or Spybot. Neither of those programs for sure has HouseCalls ActiveX control in their respective databases. |

The two programs I use which set kill-bits are Spyware Blaster and the Spyware Block File list. So, one of those may be the culprit because only recently the Trend Micro scan failed to work.

There seems to be a common denominator with one of your programs and what I used (have since deleted it), and that is Spyware Block List File. I never used it on my other PC, which works well with Trend Micro Online.
Now I have to find the CLSID for Panda...lol
Edit.. found the clsid for Panda {9A9307A0-7DA4-4DAF-B042-5009F29E09E1} and it also had (1024) in the registry. I deleted it and now Panda works.
