[Wireless] wrt54g not connecting running alchemypre7a

Purchased a WRT54g v3 running the most recent linksys software hooked up my modem upstairs

I then used my WRT54G v2 w/ Alchemy pre7a firmware on it and put it in my basement

v2
address is 192.168.1.2
subnet - 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1

Wireless setup - disabled
DCHP - disabled
firewall - disabled

WEP - enabled (key is correct)
and broadcasting SSID enabled

I wired this item to the PC and set it up with an IP , Subnet and a router gateway of my router 192.168.1.1

I tried it in client mode and in AP mode nothing will connect

where do I troubleshoot ?

what am I doing wrong?

thx

sorry i'm trying to use WRT54g in bridge mode. I have the router upstairs connected to 3 computers then two floors down I need to connect 3 more computers. I used to use the LInksys wet11 bridge but that is now hard to find and slow compared to buying another router and using it in Bridge mode (WRT54g w/ different firmware). I used another firmware alchemy pre7a

but after installing everything I cannot connect it to my other router

I just need to know how to troubleshoot this problem or what do i have configured incorrectly sorry for being sooooo vage
