But she will check into why their server sometimes doesnt resolve. So I guess comcast is off the hook. However, I STILL wish I had a choice in ISPs. I am about 600 yards too far from a switching station or whatever for dsl. I just did a quick Google search on "qwest+fttn". You might want to keep an eye on that. FTTN, or "Fiber To The Node", at least as SBC is doing it, links clusters of residential housing to RTs, or "Remote Terminals", which are not supposed to be any farther than 5,000 on the longest run to any residence in the cluster (about 300-500 residences). Qwest seems to have some idea to deploy FTTN in their service area. -- Norman ~A deam, dream, no dream ~Voices of the night go across the forest ~A dream, dream, no dream ~Good night my good child |

said by hawkestar :I tried sending thru a non-comcast account: hotmail. She did not receive the reply. Wife is going to check with their host. Although she HAS been receiving mail from other people... That could be a result of DNS propagation delay; some DNS servers catch up with a change before other DNS servers. -- Norman ~A deam, dream, no dream ~Voices of the night go across the forest ~A dream, dream, no dream ~Good night my good child |

I wonder if her email provider has perhaps changed an IP address or something in their connectivity which has caused the mailserver address to not be propagated?? |

said by hawkestar :The answer is no. My wife just reported she did NOT receive my email thru hotmail. It's not clear that you tested per the suggestion.
Can you reach the first email address you tried from a non-Comcast email service? |

Before you go off on Comcast, read again what NormanS posted. You should check whether the destination is reachable via another mail service. |

| reply to hawkestar Now the trick is to get them to believe they actually have a problem. First, they claimed it was my client. Then I sent them the link to another url that basically said what you did and told them they need to check their servers. So then they sent a response saying they understood I needed help with my email client configuration. So I sent them a scathing reply saying NO I do NOT and if they bothered to READ my MESSAGE, they would see that.
BAH I so wish I had a choice in my broadband provider. |

said by hawkestar :Of course, the tech support is determined that the issue is on my end NOTHING has changed within my system in the past 24 hours. And no, I will NOT re-install OE just to get them to help me. I am using thunderbird for my client. Yesterday, I sent mail to this particular address just fine. Starting today, I get the following issue: An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: [TEMPFAIL] destination not valid within DNS. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again Now mind you, I can send to this person's other email address and I have no problems sending to anyone else. It is just her work address with this issue. The issue is out of your hands. Your ISP mail server can't find the MX for the destination. It is listed as a temporary failure. If you have a different mail service, try using it. If MSN Hotmail or Yahoo! Web Mail work, your ISP has a DNS issue. If another server also fails, there are problems with the MX server at the destination. -- Norman ~A deam, dream, no dream ~Voices of the night go across the forest ~A dream, dream, no dream ~Good night my good child |
