| There are Indeed Concerns, but Article is Biased
While I do believe that there are some legitimate privacy concerns related to Google, it also seems that part one of the articles referenced to in this story is biased, and heavily at that. For example, the article states "In addition, Google reads users' private e-mail sent through its Gmail service and private e-mail stored on users' hard drives through its desktop-search software." In my opinion, the statement that "Google reads..." implies that the text is more than merely search electronically for keywords, but that it is actually comprehended, which is not the case. Furthermore, it seems to imply that Google is somehow aware of the emails you have stored on your computer. Google's software is, but Google sure isn't, at least not to the extent of GMail - the emails Google indexes on your hard drive are never sent back to or analyzed by Google. In a sense, Google's email indexing is about as much of a threat to your privacy as your email program's spell checker. It may make it easier for people with access to your computer to see private emails, but Google never sees any of it.
All and all, and interesting read, and I do agree that Google poses some threat to privacy, but as of late, barking about Google's threat seems to be more of the "in" thing to do, and this article can be tossed into that pile, IMHO. | | TKJunkMail Enjoy the sun Premium join:2002-03-03 Avalon, NJ

Zeroing in on Google is so myopic. Everyone's ISP, thru use of network sniffing tools, can see everything you do on the internet that is not encrypted. Face it. Everything you do online(except encrypted info)is out there to be seen and captured if someone wants to go thru the trouble. But who wants to go to the trouble, unless you are some important personage or a target of the FBI, NSA, CIA, homeland security, etc.
Anyone who bothers to trace my unencrypted info will be bored to death. -- My Web Page Join Red Room Forum | |
