Any good Still?

Been a Mac user for sometime now and just acquired a PC to add to my network. I remember years back when i used a PC I used AVG free addition. Is it still pretty good and lite on resources. I also assume ZA free is good still these days or is the windows built in one improved since XP first came out?

Re: Any good Still?

I am using the new za free played around with a few differing soft 'walls ones tiny older, kerio newer, old sygate, older za's, new za?... its running okay
Kerio seemed to me to give the most info about whats about
but za is good though some have had issues with maybe pro but thne its trying to do a lot beyond being a soft. 'wall, maybe too much? I don't know.

I run AVG /free; ZoneAlarm firewall / free; and SpyWareBlaster / free.

Trouble free for years with this combination.

If you were happy using AVG Free and ZA Free in the past then you'll most likely be happy with the current free versions of them.

Guess I will give AVG another go,seemed to be light on resources back when I used it before and seemed to get the job done. Forgot so much after being a Mac user for so long.

Zonealarm is a good free firewall.

However, for a free antivirus I would look into:
1. Avast
2. AntiVir

AVG Free's still good, although not as efficient as it once was. The big problem (for some people) is failed updates. You can hack around the problem or go to one of the others such as Avast.

ZoneAlarm is still fine, although some people are having trouble with the later versions. I like ancient versions personally (ZAF 2.6.362, XP SP2 compatible), some people prefer 4.x, and some people prefer 5.x. Not a lot of 6.x fans yet from what I see.

In my case, I have never had an update problem with the latest version of AVG free, running on XP Home.

Yea, the new subtraction version works just as well.

Seriously, I am using the Free Edition version in two of my computers and the Professional version in another computer, and AVG has never failed me.

Re: Any good Still?

Ok so I'm a redneck and used "addition" instead of "edition", you caught me.

Another way to go for your new PC is the illegal Intel Mac OSX distribution floating around. Then you wouldn't need to decide on an AV program!

N.B.: I would not run that even if it were handed to me with source code. It's both wrong and dangerous.

One of the largest surprizes to me was uninstalling the newest free za 6 whatever off 2 grand.
it uninstalled pretty clean and left little garbage.
