 | Proper way to tuck shirt in Is there a proper way to tuck a shirt in? I wear pretty expensive clothes but somehow manage to have wrinkles around my waist from tucking them in. |

There is no way to avoid the wrinkles. Have the shirt dry cleaned. |

quote: tucking technique
Hi, I don't know if this is a valid article suggestion... but I have always admired others' way of tucking in their shirts, because they seem very neat. However, I can't seem to simulate how they do it. Is there a proper way of tucking in shirts?
If so, can you feature an article about it?
Many thanks! Joseph
Your question is valid, but unfortunately, my answer isn't long enough to dedicate an entire article to the topic, so you'll have to settle for this Fashion Q&A. To this day, I still haven't come across a magical "tucking technique" but I can tell you how I go about it, as my shirts tend to look very neat.
First and foremost, try to wear shirts that fit well all around. They don't necessarily have to be fitted, but make sure they're not too loose, because the more extra fabric there is to tuck in, the more the extra slack will fold excessively, causing it to bulge up and look messy.
Now how should you go about tucking in your shirts? I suggest you put on your shirt before putting on your trousers. Don't ask me why, it just works better that way. Then, while slipping your trousers on over your shirt, make sure your shirt is evenly distributed around your waistband, button up your pants and buckle your belt.
At this point, your shirt should be tightly tucked into your pants to the point that even the slightest move should cause it to "untuck." That's when you should slowly raise your arms straight up into the air. While doing so, your shirt will slowly and evenly come out, at just the right amount.
Remember; keeping the sides of your shirt firm and even is the key to making sure it looks neat. Once the sides are evenly untucked, you can adjust the front and back of your shirt to your liking. Some guys prefer having their shirts tucked out a little more in front while others prefer making them hang looser in back. Hope this helps.

Two styles - one attaches to shirt tail and top of socks (keeping your socks up while keeping your shirt tail tucked in), and stirrup type that slip over the foot rather than attaching to your socks. Do a google for shirt stays to find sources. -- BEAT IT, BILL! KIA!! |

 | reply to Johkal Im not talking about how to physically take material from a shirt and get it into my pants. Anyone can do that (including you). Do you know how to tie a bowtie? Do you know how to get the perfect dimple in your ties? Some people are more of a perfectionist with certain things..... |

As a teenager, I worked for a private country club in their restaurant. We had to where bow ties. I thought the clip on ones looked bad, so I learned how to tie a real one. -- Write me up for doing 125....... |

Re: Proper way to tuck shirt in Not trying to hijack the thread but have you tried the newer stain resistant and wrinkle free shirts? I like the ones with both as they are a little stiffer. I've bought the Stafford brand in the past and love them. I kid you not, take right out of the dryer and hang up and they look like they have been ironed. I also think they do not wrinkle as much (really not at all) when you wear them. |

 | Stafford? no thanks. |

Proper wrinkling is one reason natural cloths like cotton, wool and linen are much preferred for men's clothing over synthetic and synthetic blend fabrics.
Some wrinkling is normal with natural fiber cloth.
Wrinkle-free clothing looks cheap on a man.
1. If the wrinkles are excessive your shirts are too loose.
- Ask at a mensware shop for advice.
- Depending on how trim you are, shirts from a different maker, or shirts described as "tapered" or "fitted" shirts should solve your problem. If you have an extremely unusual body shape then you might need to have your shirts altered by a tailor.
What size neck, arms and waist do you have? How much loose fabric is there at the waist (in inches)?
Men return shirts that won't do up at the waist, whereas they will put up with shirts that ballon out a foot or two at the waist. With the number of overweight people going up in the USA, shirt makers are taking the easy step of increasing the waist sizes of their normal fit shirts. This is especially true for mail order places.
2. (a) Button your shirt before doing up your pants. That distributes the wrinkling evenly. (b) Once done up, smooth the shirt at the front a bit.
Remember, some wrinkling is necessary too look right.
Too much wrinkling around the waist means the shirt's waist is too big. -- (Virus&Hijacking FAQ + Submit suspected malware + Backups FAQ + Security FAQ TOC) |

Go cheap and stick with a poly blend. Less wrinkles, stands up great. Looks good. -- The ScreenSavers PODCAST! TWIT Everytime I post "SYSTEM" sends me a little "Thank You.." |
