People who want near perfect service, try using AT&T CV or TW's Digital Phone. They may cost double, but are more reliable. |

Outages happen.
Have a backup: another voip provider, cellphone, pots line, or other service.
Be prepared.

Maybe where you are, but not where I am. Even TW's installers don't want to install digital phone around here because they know that they are just going to have to come back, and back, and back until the subscriber lets them port it out. |

They have their own issues, but the dial tone is extremely reliable. |

Here is an update to an interesting POTS article..
Thousands still without phone service in Ft. Myers
Sprint's phone lines cut six times in last year Kathryn Simmons - NBC-2.com
LEE COUNTY A crew from Phoenix Construction cut several cables Monday night, cutting phone service off to 20,000 Sprint customers. As workers fix the cables, Sprint and Phoenix Construction are trying to piece together what happened.
Chopping up and getting rid of thousands of feet of thick, heavy cables and threading in the new ones is a daunting task.
Late Monday, a Phoenix Construction worker cut into Sprint phone lines on Gladiolus Drive.
"This is a major, major, major cable cut," said Sprint Spokesperson Steve Personette.
Personette says the incident is still under investigation.
NBC2 has reported Sprint lines being cut in Lee and Collier counties six times in the past nine months.
Personette says all of those incidents are still under investigation.
Phoenix Construction sent NBC2 paperwork dated August 23, 2005 from "The Sunshine State One Call of Florida." by state law contractors have to call this number before digging and wait for utility companies to respond.
The ticket shows Sprint marked the ground where cables were located. Ron Golinowsky, the Vice President of Phoenix Construction says the concrete wasn't marked where they were digging.
"There were no paint marks. There should have been orange paint marks on that pavement and there was not," said Golinowsky.
Sprint says that incident is under investigation as well.
Sprint crews and a company hired to help are working 24 hours a day to get the phone lines back up and running.
The Lee County Sheriff Office dropped a citation against Phoenix Construction connected to this incident because Phoenix provided paperwork showing they were cleared to dig. |

| I lost service last night, and then today in the middle of a conference call I started getting drop outs on the order of a few seconds in length. Eventually the line went dead, and calling back in cured the problem. I don't think it was a DSL problem because I could still surf during the interruptions, nor do I think it was a problem with the conference call facility. Not being able to rely on phone service is a problem. I know I can't expect POTS reliability, but I would hope for something better than a couple of cans and some string. |

| reply to daystrom I'm having serious problems. It may not be all SR though, comcast is having intermittent problems as well.
The puzzling thing is I get a dial tone but every I place gets a busy signal. Funny thing is I was on a call which I hung up on and now I can't place a call.
I think this gizmo FW upgrade was a bad idea for SR. I hope this is fixed soon otherwise I'll look elsewhere after staying around for 6 months. |

acmeco: Not to be picky (but I guess I am, sorry) but you are actually on Pacific Daylight Time right now, not Mountain. You Arizonans (is that the right spelling?) keep switching between the two by not changing your clocks with the rest of the country. |

BTW, those rankings are bull crap. |

| reply to daystrom Just switched to SunRocket after one year with Vonage and two years with Packet8. Have been reading the numerous complaints about outages on Aug 31.
The outages must be regional. I place and received calls all day on the 31st from 9:13 AM EST to 6:20 PM EST with no problems and excellent quality of sound.
Over the past three years I have experienced periodic outages on Vonage and Packet8 but have accepted them as the costs of a new developing service and would not drop my POTS number for that reason. Even the best of VOIP service is still in the beta stage. |

Considering that the OP of this thread stated that the outage started around 9:30 EST, and consideing that the OP posted this thread at night after 9:30 PM EST, it's safe to assume the outage began around 9:30 PM EST.
Thus, you apparently weren't trying to use your SR service during the first outage.
