Unofficial third party XP Service Pack

What is Windows XP Service Pack 3 Preview, which was designed by thehotfix.net?
I looked it on »www.softpedia.com.

Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3

It's a 100+ hotfix pack of many of the Windows XP SP3 fixes up for download.

These are fixes that you would have to call Microsoft and get through their support center.

Means you can't get them from Windows Update because they are not yet official patches.

Most people who have installed a update, or patch have encountered at least one bad one, some of these are beta, do you really want to install a beta patch??

Strangly never on my own system. Probably because i never update a old os install and instead opt for a reformat then start piling on the updates. I realy started doing this in case the worst did happen and the os went belly up id not have much to loose. Seems that most isues with updates happen on old beat up installs.

I fully agree dont fool around with betas less your ready to acept the risk invulved. If your willing and able i say go for it. The update might just give you exactly what your after. But if your not willing to loose data or have your os go belly up and be totaly unrecoverable other than a full reformat then stay away.

Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3

In my case I wouldn't be effected to badly, while I don't use system restore which is actually quite worthless against real problems, I make semi-frequent images of my operating system partition while keeping additional information/applications on other partitions. So if an uninstall doesn't work I can always go back.

I've only encountered two bad updates, one messed up my desktop, and icons on Win98se, it was a local exploit so it would have to be on my system to effect me so I was not worried, and another on XP, when Microsoft first released bluetooth drivers for XP they were actually the beta drivers being developed in XP SP2, so Microsoft was giving beta drivers out with their bluetooth hardware people actually paid for. When SP2 came out I did a clean install with a slipstreamed SP2, and the new drivers were much better. The real issue was they didn't let you know they were beta drivers, but I also became part of the XP SP2 beta testing so I figured it out real quick...

Lol sounds like a ooopsy to me. Ati shipped out their radeon 9200 with beta 4.1 cat drivers lol. Nvidia did the same with i thing the 5500 t one point forget the brand of the nvidia card now. I just know this sort of beta driver v real driver happens now and then compleatly by accident. I know it was a accident with ati for sure because the beta they shipped for that shipment included a beta tester only utility for drivers

These are from microsoft, they are just mainly for companies that have specific bugs that microsoft tries to crunch out a quick patch.

Specific bugs or not, I would NEVER download any Windows patch or Service Pack from a third party site. I've seen too many HJT logs posted in this very forum and I know full well what you download is not always what you install. JMO

I aggreee with owlbet here. While the patches might be from ms you simply can not know what else is in there with them. Maybe this one is 100% legit with out any trojans keylogger cd key steelers etc. But i remember one for windows 98 way back when that was packed with a full blown trojan a keylogger, a pre configured proxy and a irc ddos bot.

When it comes to patches and driver related tyhings do not use 3rd party releases or apps. Driver removers totaly suck i mean realy if ati and nvidia cant get it right do you realy thing guru3d can?

You can download the separated patches from the full list of software in Service Pack 3 from www.thehotfix.net/sp3.html

BTW, according to thehotfix notice
All hotfix downloads are linked directly to Microsoft. These are 100% official downloads.
Added.
I have checked downloading speed from this URL - request a few hours.
Therefore I propose other URL »majorgeeks.com/Windows_XP_Servic···754.html - I downloaded that Pack during 9 min.

In my previous post I add other URL for downloading SP3 as zip file and MD5 for checking it against other sources. Is it the same? Thank you.
