| Getting a Line Swapper adapter for Alcatel modem?
A couple of weeks ago I picked up an Alcatel DSL modem, though from what information I've gathered, it requires a small adapter called a "line swapper". Essentially it reverses the outside pins on the RJ-11 jack so the modem will sync with Bell.
I already have a spare DSL modem myself, so I was thinking of giving it to my parents as a backup for their Sympatico account. I know it can take several days (weeks in rare cases) for Bell to send out a replacement, if there's a fault with the modem.
I'm wondering, does anyone here have a spare adapter? I heard Radio Shack carries a line splitter which may work, but I haven't seen one at the local outlet and I rather use the official part to ensure no stray electrical noise.

1 edit | It depends where your alcatel was manufactored. Mine and many others's Alcatels don't require any line swappers. To be honest, I never saw an alcatel that required a line swapper to sync. Don't count that a line swapper will get it to sync, cause maybe it's a dead modem. -- Can you say fiber optics? |

I've been able to get into the modem's web-interface for settings, even flashed upgraded it, but it won't sync. |

Or just make one - there's nothing special inside of these things. |

| reply to IIgs If there is a jack in the house that is used specifically for the modem, ie no phones are plugged in you can convert that jack to work with the modem. The wires that come to the jack attach to the red/green feed for the jack. All you have to do is attach the yellow/black leads from the jack to the same place and it will work. Do you understand? -- My Canada includes Quebec. |

1 edit | reply to IIgs Mike_G: It is indeed set to 0/35, but regardless, that won't affect DSL sync (but would prevent you from being able to log into Sympatico or any other provider).
HeadSpinning: A quote from that page if I try and order one: "The Excelsus-Tech Online Store is for purchases in United States only.".
Glen1: The problem with that is then that particular phone jack won't work with other DSL modems, or voice phone for that matter. Maybe I can just rewire a piece of phone cord, or a jack splitter, the problem is I don't have any tool to recrimp the RJ11 jack.
UPDATE EDIT: Okay, I dug up an old splitter and reversed the outside wires (yellow and black), plugged it into the back of the modem, and plugged the phone cord into the jack/side I rewired. The sync LED still flashes endlessly; unless it needs a good 5 minutes to sync? |

One plugged in at a time as both won't synch on the same time on the same line. -- My Canada includes Quebec. |

I also have a Alcatel SpeedTouch Home DSL modem...
which needs line swapper. which swaps LINE1 to LINE2? or vise versa.
Works as good as using Bell's Official Modem. its only few dollar. |

You can find a line swapper at "Add Tronique" in Terrebonne (Qc) or maybe at Addison in Montreal for +/- 5$. |
