| [News] Network Maintenance Dear Insight Broadband Customer,
We know what it means to lose your Internet connection for even a short period of time, which is why we make every effort possible to do required maintenance in a manner that will cause the least inconvenience to you.
On September 8, 2005 between the hours of midnight and 8AM your Insight Broadband service will be interrupted while we perform necessary maintenance to improve the reliability and efficiency of your High Speed Internet connection. We have scheduled this work during a time of day when we believe the least number of our customers will be affected. We very much appreciate your patience and understanding.
If you experience any problems with your connection after we complete this work please unplug your modem from power, reconnect power to your modem and restart your computer (and router if applicable). If that step does not restore your Internet connection then please visit »sam.insight-com.com [»sam.insight-com.com] to ensure that your equipment is correctly configured on your account. Just follow the on-screen prompts to replace your devices if necessary.
If you have any questions about this or any other aspect of your service, please feel free to call your Insight customer service office and we can help answer any questions you may have.
This would be out of the Rockford, IL Headend.

| I assume this will be system wide - not just area specific? I've yet to see an email with this information. Thanks for the heads up. And hopefully this time the maintenance will fix what the last round broke. I'm not holding my breath though. -- Test Your Security Cable Diagnostics Iggyz Blog ZoneAlarm Help | |

| Re: [News] Network Maintenance Pardon my brief thread-hijacking, but does anyone know what QAM 256 means? I googled a bit and it seems that number is associated with a maximum of 36 mbps downstream... I don't really know what else it means in terms of telephone service or non-data things such as HD channels.
Insight's C-U system is set to QAM 256, btw...

| I figue it is just Rockford (including Freeport, Belvidere, the Parks, Cherry Valley, Byron, and Stillman Valley).
I have seen others post similar messages that I have not received.
I think Insight is working on rolling out VOIP around here and this is an upgrade for VOIP. I don't have proof to back this up but everything I have seen leads that way.

| Re: [News] Network Maintenance The Insight VOIP service has been rolled out in some areas already. There is at least one thread on that here in the forum. I also covered this on my blog. I'm not sure if any other areas have had the service released to the general public yet.
I'd agree that my feeling is most "maintenance" notices customers see lately have a good chance of being related to getting that new service up and running.
As for higher speeds. I'm not holding my breath on that. I also highly doubt Insight would be willing to match the price points of other cable providers. They have clearly stated they will not compete on price against DSL services. Customers like myself who pay for the premium 6000/512 service are paying way above what many providers now charge for this speed. It's not just Comcast upgrading speed tiers for less or the same amount of money their customers are currently paying.

1 edit | Just an update my IP changed and my speeds seem to have improved slightly. Current test 2960/350. That is about the best test I have ever had. Also I did not have to reboot a thing. My IP changed after 6:30 AM on the 8th. I had checked to make it had not changed, but then during the day I was no longer able to remote home as the IP changed.

| Similar speeds after maintenance.
Download Speed: 2891 kbps (361.4 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 475 kbps (59.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
For a few hours there I was at 3800kbps. I guess all the college students in my node hadn't power cycled their modems yet. Having done so, started the P2P programs and now I'm back down to 2800kbps.
