Up to 30 Mbps/5 Mbps $54.95 FREE

Kick ass. Is that a local thing to compete with OOL, I wonder, or is it nationwide.

Re: [ fiber tech] 30/5 is $54.95!

Yes that was in an OOL enabled market FYI.

I can order right now off the website and it is indeed legitimate.

All I know is this market is $54.95 for 30/5 and thats awesome. If they would bring it here, I would be sold.

Re: [ fiber tech] 30/5 is $54.95!

Man I wish I wasn't moving to a condo next month. I love the 15/2 package I have and would upgrade to the 30/5 for the price now, but makes no sense since my folks and I are moving. If this price stays throughout the OOL market, it kills OOL and the 20/2 package that is being tested and may be rolled out. I love competition Now I just need my condo building to be wired for FIOS since I am staying put in Great Neck. MDUs in Nassau County haven't happened yet have they?

Maybe they are just testing the waters. If that price were generally available, they wouldn't keep it a secret.

That is the BEST. DEAL. EVER.

NOW lets see the cable companies compete with THAT! $54.95/month is the SWEET SPOT for residential 30mbps/5mbps! I doubt that many people would signup for $59.99/month or up service, but $54.95 @ 10mbps ABOVE that of Optimum Onlines BETA 20mbps/2mbps ($45.95/month) makes it an EXCELLENT steal. I am SO set on FIOS, I will signup the first instance I hear about it.

Re: [ fiber tech] 30/5 is $54.95!

Can anyone confirm if this deal is for new customers or existing ones?

I have the 15/2 plan now for $49.95, and will gladly pay $54.95 for 30/5.

Edit: I'd do it myself, but the company I work for is insane about using their fractioned T-1 for business purposes only.

The deal is *technically* *cough* for new customers only, but if you call them (as I did) and you explain to the nice people that, yes, you have it already, but there were no plans available when I got it, etc... they *will* let you order it. I know because I did it today. I upgraded from month to month 15/2 to a 1 year rate on the 30/5. I understand that it *should* be active when I get home later tonight.

You can call the Verizon Fiber solutions center at 1-888-553-1555

Once you get past the initial recording, just say "operator" and then answer "yes"... you'll be on with a rep, explain the situation and they will put you on with someone in the order center. Be nice.

I'm always nice on the phone, and I believe everyone should be.

I could do the year rate on 30/5, but not sound greedy (thats now how I mean this comment), but what happens if down the line, tier's are reconfigured based upon market conditions? Am I still "locked into" the 30/5, or is it like their cellular service, where you start a new contract from the date of change of service?

I believe there is a penalty of $99 if you cancel service prior to the one year. With 30/5, that is a chance I'm willing to take.

And by the way, I am at 30/5 now. Tested to 31.1/4.84 at »myspeed.visualware.com/

I can confirm the pricing offer. I entered my neighbor's phone number here in North Woodmere LI and was quoted the $55 price for 30/5.

Also, today in the local paper (Newsday) there was a full page add:
"Cable is Unable"

It was a nice shot at OOL. I am so liking this!

nothing you can do except wait and see if they make this nationwide, it would be kind of un-fair if they didn't. If that pricing is not a mistake, then we should see this price go official within the next month.

You would think so, but many companies have "special" rates to areas with high competition, which do not become nationwide. Unfortunatley if VZ thinks OOL is a big enough threat over there in NY/NJ, then they will give this deal. However, here in TX, there is nothing out there that can really compare with 15/2 so VZ can sit back and keep the prices.

Of course... I had to check myself to see if it had been updated for Carrollton (Dallas) Texas... NOPE... nothing has changed.

I never really thought I would ever say this... I really have no complaints whatsoever with the 15/2. I am not really sure I would change. We will see.

It will be interesting to see how Verizon handles this for customers like myself that have had the service going on a year. I'm really wondering if they plan to increase the speed for the static business customers. We are always last to get those deals.

What would anyone ever do with 30/5?

Re: [ fiber tech] 30/5 is $54.95!

Remember, the service is only as fast as the slowest link between you and your source or destination. This would be same as buying a car with a 200 mph top speed thinking that you will get places faster. Sure in some cases, performance will be better, but you will not be able to drive everywhere going 200 mph. Your packets will not only be sent over Verizon's network. What incentive do the middle links or other routers in the Internet have for providing you with a faster service than the next guy. I have noticed that Verizon has slightly downgraded the performance of my 1.5 Mbps DSL connection when I opted for the 786 kbps DSL. I would say that the service feels about 20% slower when web surfing and the fastest download speed has been reduced from about 100 kilobytes/second to 70. But my cost has been cut in half, so I still benefit. But I doubt that the 30 Mbps services will be worth it for the average customer.

"Link between your source or destination”…sounds a bit singular to me. I run 3 computers all sending and receiving on multiple connections. Its not to difficult to max out a 15/2 connection. If 30/5 were made available to me here in NJ @ $54.95 I would jump right on it.

spke to a tech friend of my and he states so far only for Long Island OOl region. OOL is supposed to go to a 20/2 tier sometime this fall and this is to compete with it. Love competition. I never believed that it costs over $100 dollars to increase speeds.

Most definitely this will be rolled out to other areas. The next area I could see this, besides the OOL market, is probably in N VA where Comcast and Cox are having to up their speeds to compete with FIOS. Then perhaps other areas where the competitors are upping their speeds to the FIOS 15/2 package. In a year or so it could be nationwide, just a wait and see approach right now.

I am not sure it will even take a year... I believe that Verizon's main focus right now is getting their Video Service rolled out. However, once this new pricing gets publicized I think they might be pressured in offering it across the board. They have been pretty good about making FIOS customers happy.

But, you have to have another company with similar speeds I'd imagine. Lowering the price in areas that only have 3-6mb dsl/or cable would cost them a bundle of lost revenue.

Verizon, if you're listening: Right now, I'm intending to get the 5/2 plan. But at this price, I'd get 30/5. (15/2 doesn't interest me much; I don't think I'd get anything out of the additional download, but I can always use more upload.)

Do indeed expect this to be a nationwide offering in about a month or so. Right now they are waiting until enough users in this market upgrade to the service so they can make sure that no bugs pop up with all that extra bandwidth being used. They need to fully make sure that the current routers, internal hardware and such can handle mass usage of those speeds.

Just consider the Long Island market a test market for now. Also they do indeed want people signing up for a year at 55-60/month because once they offer their Video TV bundles and pricing they know a customer who has internet with them will be 80% more likely to cut off their existing TV provider. This is all about increasing their odds of getting video customers.

I have a call out to the head of Fios Media Relations (I was one of the first Fios installs in NJ, so he gave me his office and cell numbers when he asked me to talk to the press as a charter Fios customer) regarding VZ's decision to not offer this rate outside of LI.....

Re: [ fiber tech] 30/5 is $54.95!

Jobronie,

Look forward to hearing what you find out...

Just a side note. If VZ did start offering this deal, I think they would be banking on the fact that not all users would use 30 MBits. As of right now, with BPON, VZ only has 622 MBits down split among a max of 32 houses. Unless my math is wrong, that is only about 19 MBits per house, and that is IF all conditions a perfect, which I am guessing they won't always be. I do seriously doubt this will be a problem, since I don't think too many users will be maxing out the 30 at all times (especially concurrently). The u/l is a little better, as it is suppose to be 155 split 32 ways. And that yields right at about 5 MBits to all 32 concurrently. And from what most people here say, they are interested in the extra 3 MBits up, more than the extra 15 MBits down in the 30/5 package vs the 15/2 package. This ofcourse does not take into account how much bandwidth the vz backend has, and if it can indeed support all that bandwidth. If VZ does have the backend to support this, they may wait till GPON is rolled out before offering 30/5 at such a low price to everyone in the country with FIOS.

Just some thoughts.

I thanked him and then played nice guy and told him that I just wanted to give him a heads up that word was spreading thru the internet that you could buy the 30/5 package 40-50 miles away on LI for less than a third of what we would have to pay in north Jersey and that both areas are serviced by OOL, and that it was just a matter of time before some customer dropped dime and called one of those Five on Your Side-type reporters.

He said he'd forward it to one of the upper guys in mkgt. and have them get back to me to see what's going on in NJ....
