| [TWC] TWC Kansas City VOIP service issues.
Hi, I live in Overland Park, KS and I have TW VOIP. When I talk to people from my home phone they tell me that I will start to sound like a robot and it sounds very broken up and also whenever I talk to someone when I'm at work to someone at my home phone I will hear this as well. They start to sound very robotic and distorted and I can make out maybe ever other syllabel.
I've had TW out a few times they checked my signal and say everything is good, but the problem keeps coming up. It's VERY annoying and it happens at least once every time I talk to someone. I talked to someone at the national help desk and they said that my phone lines in my house may be too old. But my house is only 13 years old and I have a co-worker who lives in a house that is at least 20 years old and he said he's never had a problem.
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated! |

| hmm... i experience the "breaking up" as well. I can tell you that it is NOT my phone lines, as I have none. We live in an older townhome (circa 1973) but there were no phone lines when we moved in. So... When they hooked up my TW Digital phone service, we're hooked directly to the modem with a splitter to allow for 2 phones. This splitter was made by the TW service guy when he installed it. I thought perhaps it was my phone, but now I'm second guessing that since I'm not the only one having this issue.
Maybe someone has some other input?
btw, I'm in Belton, MO. not too far from you |

| it's packet loss or latency... to test.. from a command prompt (start -> run -> cmd) ping -t google.com
after a while hit ctrl-c to interrupt
should be in ball park of 40 ms, if jumping up to 100-150ms, or there is packet loss you will get the robotic voice break up..
Contact tw, dial 6-1-1 and have a tech come out, chances are there is an issue with a wire/fitting/splitter that is not working... |

| reply to koolzero For me its like this-
Packets: Sent = 40, Received = 40, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 51ms, Maximum = 71ms, Average = 61ms So I guess its not all that bad, IF I'm not using the internet. I'll resume a couple uploads and paste that result.
Packets: Sent = 10, Received = 10, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 256ms, Maximum = 529ms, Average = 416ms So, as we can see, the upstream might be affecting the Digital Phone Service after all. This was utilizing my FULL upstream. Any thoughts ? |

| reply to koolzero My dog has been chewing on the coaxial cables that are on the outside of my house, this is probably what is causing my packet loss.
Weirdalex maybe something is wrong with your wiring as well which may be causing your problems.
Mainiac, should I tell TW that I suspect it's caused by my dog chewing on my cable. They've looked at the cables in the past and tightened some stuff up and never mentioned anything about the cables being in bad shape, but I've noticed lately that the cables are getting a little chewed up, and some of the actual wires were becoming exposed. I wrapped some electrical tape around what I could to try and protect it.
Thanks for your help! |

| yah.. still call and have them replace...
Downside.. ur dog did it so u might get charged...
when tech gets out there and replaces wires, pour some tabasco sauce or something like that over them so dog won't chew wires.
Electricle tape will prevent some water getting in, but the RF signal from the cable co, will be leaking out, as will RF from you home (tv's, microwaves, cordless phones, wifi networks, vaccumes..etc).
So the line needs to be taken out. |

| TW came out yesterday and respliced a wire that was badly frailed and it seemed to clear up the noise. It also made my speed a lot faster! However my stupid dog started chewing on the wires today and already severed another wire TW didn't charge me yesterday to fix the wire and he said if he had to come out again he would charge me.
As soon as I caught her doing it I slathered a bunch of tabasco sauce on the cables. My dog has been known to like the pepper repellent so I don't know if this will work. If the tabasco doesn't work are there some other suggestions? |
