i am new here and would very much appreciate some help. I just recieved my new dell and was eager to get my life in order again, starting with downloading itunes. I too recieved the messages about Bonjour, but it did not immediatly install it..i simply could not finish dowloading itunes. I still want itunes though so what do i do? |

| reply to erwin_mi said by erwin_mi :Version 5 of iTunes also loads the InstallDriver Table Manager service and as the previous versions also the iPod Service service, which loads even if there isn't an iPod connected. I think the following is a safe configuration: - Bonjour Service: disabled - InstallDriver Table Manager: manual - iPod Service: manual (or even disabled if you don't own an iPod). For all the people who thought Apple keeps its software simple and effective, this must come as a huge surprise... Thanks- I didn't realize I had even installed it until my firewall started asking permission for it to access the internet- not cool! The site implies you 'install' the program- it sure snuck right by me. Really dissapointing news from Apple for sure.
Thanks again- reiko2 -- 'Bill was right,so I smoked my cigarette and went home' -Dragnet 1969 episode 16 'the gun' |

iTunes also puts iTunesHelper and QuickTime Task in System Startup, which also can be safely disabled.
The last version also fires up mdnsresponder.exe which connects to your dns-server. I presume this executable is a part of the Bonjour Service. I deny all connections for it in my firewall.
