DOD Lovers, the time of waiting is about to end!

=

Preloading of Day of Defeat: Source will begin next week. It will be released and ready to play on September 26th. Once we get closer to that date, we'll set an exact time for when we'll "throw the switch."

Preloading the game allows people to have the entire game on their hard drive in encrypted form so that, if already purchased or pre-ordered, it will be playable at the moment it is released. Dedicated server administrators will also have some time to get their servers up and running before the 26th.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is also some pretty exciting news on the MOD front, where the team over at Dystopia is preparing to release a demo of their game today at 11:59 GMT. Head on over to the Dystopia page to check out their release.

Day of Defeat®: Source™ (DoD: Source), the latest version of the WWII online action game from Valve®, will be made available to gamers everywhere on September 26.

"Day of Defeat has quietly been one of the most played online action games for the past three years," said Gabe Newell, president and founder of Valve. "Day of Defeat: Source represents a major leap forward in both graphics and gameplay, and pushes the Source engine harder than any other Source project. "

DoD: Source takes the classic teamplay of DoD and expands the experience with Source, the engine technology Valve created for Half-Life® 2 and it's next generation of games. With this technology, DoD: Source offers state of the art graphics with optimized versions of popular maps and all new player, weapon and world models, plus support for HDR lighting.

DoD: Source leverages the power of the Source engine by introducing advanced sound technology to provide a more immersive soundscape and integrated physics simulation technology for ragdolls and physically simulated objects throughout each map.

Available via Steam for just $19.95 and in the Counter-Strike: Source retail package, DoD: Source is a rebuild from the ground up of Day of Defeat on the Source engine.

DoD: Source will be available for pre-load and pre-order next week. Those who purchased the Half-Life 2 Silver or Gold Steam offers will receive a request to pre-load the game at this time and will receive access to play the moment the game is made available.

when you think about it, it's better than "call of duty" and has much better physics and game engine for a cheaper price. I kinda wish I didn't cheap out and go for bronze but I don't feel like paying $20 for this

Just the feeling that for $10 (silver compared to bronze), I could've got HL:S and DOD:S, now it's $20, and you only get DOD:S

I wish I could just upgrade for $10 lmao

Did they add iron sights? It's no fun spraying and praying with just a crosshair.

actually, yes they did.

This sounds like it may just be a pretty solid release. They didn't go with external testers like they did with the old Beta, but hopefully this will be solid nontheless.

Re: DOD Lovers, the time of waiting is about to end!

Anyone have any ideas on map size? Is it just a static bordered small area such as CS or bigger? The screenshots so far look great.

I would think same map size. Nothing large like in BF. But who knows?

Re: DOD Lovers, the time of waiting is about to en

the first maps to be released will probably be anzio, donner, avalanche, flash.

Those are all bordered maps, no progressive spawns, etc...

Maybe in future patches we'll see support for larger, newer maps.

Excellent

I had pretty much given up on it considering how long it was taking, and I was expecting it to be ala CSS with no iron sights and lame physics. But this is very good news.
