Re: [TWC] How many hrs of dial up do they give?

That is no longer true. RR National Help Desk told me some time ago that it is now totally free, unlimited, and no credit card is asked for. Those of us who got it long ago and had to a give credit card number, that number has been destroyed and there is no record on file of the number we gave. Road Runner made a decision to make it totally free forever. The National Help Desk encourages users to use it when RR is down in addition to using it when traveling. (Of course, anything can change and "forever" isn't cast in concrete but for the foreseeable future at least, RR dial up is free and unlimited).

its supposed to be 10 free hours and then you get billed for anything over but they have never figured out the billing part and probably wont they say sometime next year it will be fixed but they have been saying that for years. So basically unlimited

Does Road Runner still ask for a Credit Card number in order to use their dial up service.

Thanks in advance
No, they no longer ask for a credit card. They still have mine though. I wish they would destroy the old information.

You do need to set up the software (ICC2000). The only irritating thing about it is that everytime it connects, it checks for new phone numbers and takes a long time downloading them at dialup speed. I'm connecting from home and don't need the new numbers but I see no way to bypass that.

I've never used it, but I signed up for it about a year ago as a "just in case" thing. I wasn't asked for a credit card or any other info. I believe all I had to do was go to an "activation" web site and log in with the ID and password for the main e-mail address. If I remember correctly, once I signed in with the ID and password, that was it...nothing else to do.

Road Runner no longer attempts to restrict dial up usage to traveling. They readily acknowledge that it is there for use when RR goes down. It isn't intended, of course, for all the time use. It is for BACKUP and for traveling.

Edit: It is unlimited usage for free.

I seem to recall that it's unlimited, but they make it clear that it's not there for you to be using all the time or as a backup when your cable modem goes out. Their intended purpose of it is to check your e-mail and do some light web browsing while traveling. If you have the free AOL with Road Runner, you get 10 hours of AOL dialup included.
