| yep (copying my own post from a similar thread from ELNK CABLE)
I have pretty much the same problem. I often experience high pings during prime time hours as well. It sucks to be pinging 100+ to CS servers that you should be pinging less than 20 to. Calling them does nothing as level 1 support doesn't even know what latency is. I am sure they know of the congestion on their ATDN but they don't seem keen on doing anything about it.

Your trace looks to be the worst here, and yet you only have 1 router with a hop of 70ms. That is starting to get bothersome, and i'm sure if you were to send your local Tier 3 this tracert they could get with either the NOC or RDC guys and have them take a look. No reason for that high of a trace time for a in-network ping.

| Re: why does ping jump in evenings suddenly The problem is an overloaded peering connection between ATDN and Global Crossing. These can be a challenge to get fixed. Two companies have to agree it is needed, their techies have to get the capital funding approved, and the new circuit has to be created/upgraded. Takes weeks to months, unfortunately. | |

| Re: why does ping jump in evenings suddenly On top of the other issues for getting this fixed, is that you have to get Time Warner to care. They have your money and thats all that matters to them. Even when your speeds drop to less than half of your normal, they will tell you it's within acceptable limits. Just getting them to recognize a problem is the first hudle. | |

| Check this thread: Houston Time Warner - Node Oversold.com. Although the 'node' was not oversold, TimeWarmer had managed to max out an OC12 in the evenings. It took 3 months and emails to the exec's themselves to get the thing fixed. Amazing they do not monitor their own network.

If you were to complain they would dismiss this saying "It isn't our issue, through our network your speed is fine".
Sorry, but you don't have a valid complaint. The site you are tracing to is responding slow.

The site you are tracing to is responding slow. I've seen that answer too many times- it's a canned 'pass the buck' answer. Problem being, when the problem hop is the one between your internal (rr) network and an outside router- it _IS_ 50% roadrunner's problem because it affects traffic coming from their network to that route. Chances are it's going to take network techs on both networks to work out a better route or fix the latency between the hops. I also assume ATDN is the contracted backbone for NYC, in which case RR is footing the bill and is responsible for that network throughput as well.

I don't represent Time Warner in anyway what so ever. I am just saying from experience of dealing with them, you won't get any response from Time Warner. You can call ATDN, and report slow responding routers to them. I have had to do that to Level 3, who is the backbone for us here in Columbus, since Time Warner wouldn't respond to it, since it is "Out of their network".
