Re: [HELP] my SOHO91 only boots to ROMmon what should I do

Do you have a working IOS image? If yes, then you can just upload it to the router.

I have a similar SOHO91 router and its working fine only it needs to do password recovery. Another question is how to do it without changing/resetting the data of the router, is it confreg 0x2142 or 0x0142?

If my other SOHO91 router will be recovered successfully, how can I load the IOS of it to the other SOHO that boots only in ROMmon?

Thanks

Ah, you are in luck then. 1st what you need to do is to do the password recovery on the working router. When you get into the ROMMON on this working router, set the config register value to 0x2141 to ignore the saved configuration reloading.

To store, download, and upload IOS images; you need to have TFTP Server. Check out the following FAQ on how to get one for FREE

Thank you very much. Im showing here the steps that I would do so that you can check if its good or not. Kindly correct if it doesnt needed. Thanks thanks thanks

1.rommon> confreg 0x2141 (note:is 0x2141 works for soho91)
2. reset
3.Would you like to enter the initial configuration dialog? [yes/no]: n
4. Router>
Router>enable
Router#copy startup-config running-config
5. Router#configure terminal
Router(config)#enable secret
Ctrl^Z
6. Router#configure terminal
Router(config)#config-register 0x2102
Ctrl^Z
7. Router#copy running-config startup-config
8. Reload and press Enter

Thank you so much "aryoba". I fully recovered my running router now and I am downloading the free TFTP server for windows. My next problem is in the new forum on how to save my running IOS to the TFTP server and how to reload the save IOS from TFTP server to my other router (same model) Thanks again! more power!

When I say "0x2141" I meant 0x2142 (the correct one). I guess I was in a hurry to respond your question

Well, as long as you get it right and working; no harm done. After all, it is kind of fun experimenting with config register value

Now to answer the next questions, backup IOS from router to TFTP Server and vice versa. There are infos in this forum's FAQ as follow

Can you post

1) your network setup (which connect to where)?

2) the router's configuration file (show running-config)?

Now tell how you connect to your ISP? DHCP? Static IP address? PPP?

I have the following:
1.Netmodem plus II
2.SOHO91 router (noconfig)
3.BLUECOAT SG400 (noconfig)

All is from scratch(default) execpt the netmodem who is fully operational.

Beginning from vsat connected to netmodem. The netmodem is up and running with a static public ip.

From netmodem connected to E1 of the router via RJ45.
E0 is a static private ip. This router has no running config yet. Im still reading and researching if the SOHO91 has a built in DHCP server or not.. OR my BLUECOAT SG400 can handle DHCP or not... Can you suggest from this point?
