| DGL 4300 Disconnect Problem - Help Pls.
Maybe it's not a DGL 4300 problem because the exact same thing happened with my Linksys WRT54G.
Regardless, here's the deal. When I attempt to transfer files from one computer to another via wireless connection it always disconnects. At first, the files transfer fine and fast, but about 10-15 seconds in I lose the connection and can't even see the computer any more. Furthermore, I need to reboot the computer to get the wireless connection back.
Thoughts?

| Your hardware or OS could be disconnecting mapped network drives. You may wish to reference this MSKB article to learn how to disable XP's autodisconnect feature for mapped network drives.
My Shuttle AN-50R mainboard has on-board gigabit NIC which contains in it's properties the option to set its Wake On Settings to "OS-Controlled". (Other options are "Disabled", "Wake-On Magic Packet", "Wake-On Directed Packet", and "Wake-On Magic & Directed".) Your own NIC(s) may have similar features.
In summary, you may wish to turn off autodisconnect per the linked MSKB article and set your NIC's Wake-On settings to "OS-Controlled", if that is possible. |

| Thanks for the pointers, I'll look into them.
I should also add that this disconnect problem only happens with large file transfers. The computers will never disconnect under normal use, but if I try to copy over something big, it will dump. For example, it's just impossible for me to copy over my digital pictures, which is probably around a 3 gig folder now.

1 edit | Does this happen with all "large" transfers or just ones from that "3 gig folder"? I vaguely recall that the FAT filesystems have limits in regard to filesize and foldersize. You may wish to try an experiment and first transfer the file to a smaller or different folder on the host computer before attempting to transfer to the remote computer.
Edit: stupid punctuation error. |
