Can DGL-4300 help me?

Hi All, I have several PCs in my home network. I have a DSL speed of 2550/640 or so. One of these PCs is an FTP server. As i give more upload speed to FTP server, my download speed decreases. 50% upload, loose 50% download. I am told this is caused by ACK packets that can't get back to servers I am downloading from. I just need ftp server to be low priority so others in the house can work when they need too. I tried to put FTP server on port 1 of my linksys wrt54G linksys and the rest of the house on port 2 through a gigabit switch and give port 2 high priority. That did nothing for me that I could tell. I know this router is for gaming, but does it help by dealing with the ACK packets? Would be nice to let ftp run freely until someone needs to do something. All PCs are XP based.

If you look closely at the 4300 docs you'll see that it can prioritize traffic per port. Don't know if this would help you at all or not.

Sounds pretty close to me.... Gamefuel only prioritizes outgoing packets, but it might do the trick in this case.

I was thinking about setting up an old(er) computer to act as a file server/dl machine, and setting its IP to lowest priority in Gamefuel.

Not a lot of low-end QoS routers to pick from, so even if the DGL-4100/4300 is not the perfect choice, it still might be the best choice. Haven't checked out what Linksys, Netgear, etc. have come out with lately, so I can't say much else.

Use DrTCP to turn Time Stamping on, use an RWIN under 65535 and a MSS of 1 or Scaling off. This should improve your situation quite a bit.
