|  Problems with DGL-4300
I am having a few issues with my new D-Link DGL-4300 Wireless router. The router is upgraded to the latest version of firmware v1.4. Listed below are the issues I am encountering. I appreciate any suggestions or places to look for answers.
1) Transfers between computers connected on the wired LAN (both with GigE ports) never exceed 80-90 Mbps. I do not seem to be utlizing the full gigabit link.
2) Azureus (bit-torrent client) is having problems with connections. It appears that I can connect to a swarm and the client is reporting an error connecting the requried ports. I have done the following to correct the problem:
a) Made the client computer the DMZ computer
b) Added Vitrual Server and Special Applications rule
c) Enabled UPnP to allow the Azureus UPnp to negotiate with the router
d) Visited portforward.com and followed the DGL-4100 rules to the letter
Once again, I appreciate any help on these issues. Also, I have done a search in the forums but did not find any help with these issue.

| When you say 80-90 Mbps, do you mean when doing a TCP bandwidth test, file transfer or what? Check your NIC properties (in device manager, some bundled diagnostic app, or enable the network icon in tool tray) and see if it's reporting 100 Mbps or gigabit link speed.
For file transfers, older computers usually can't handle transfering at speeds>100 Mbps, so it depends....
I use Bitcomet, and all I did was add the port and IP to Gaming section. That's it. |

Is it not downloading at all in Azureus? Also which version are you using?
I tried it using version 2.3.0.4 and it seems to be working. I rarely have used torrents, except for once in a great while. So I may not be qualified to reply here 
I do have the bittorent setup in the special applications section using the default settings. And in Azureus I let it use the default 6881 port.
I have UPNP turned on also. And it passes the Azureus port test. |

If you are using Windows XP you ought to be able to activate uPnP on the router and Azureus ought to pass the port test. You may wish to see if you have XPs uPnP service activated. (Start -> Administrative Tools -> Services -> Universal Plug and Play Device Host (service show as "started"). Also notice that this service depends upon the HTTP and the SSDP Discovery Services (both should be "started".)
If you have uPnP enabled and these three services activated you probably do not have to have any ports manually opened for BitTorrent (that is, entries for BitTorrent in any of the Gaming or Special Applications, etc., sections). I only have uPnP enabled and no manual entries for BitTorrent ports opened -- the router opens them for me. I am using the default BT ports.
This is how I have my own DGL-4100 (the wired-only version of this device) set up and I use Azureus extensively and it passes the port test here. I suppose I ought to mention that I have a BitTornado client uploading a Disco Biscuits show on one of my other computers with uPnP enabled for it as well and it also works fine.
I do not have DMZ enabled at all. In most cases, DMZ enabling will work for only one of the computers on your network (irrelevant, of course, if your network consists of only one computer). Because DMZ is enabled, any port rules you have created have been bypassed. This is, after all the purpose of DMZ: to bypass the router's NAT, if needed. I would suggest disabling DMZ. |

| So I removed all of the DMZ and SPI settings, and then verified UPnP was activated in Windows. I then rebooted XP and restarted Azureus, but I am still getting a NAT error in the Azureus tool. I get the typical start up messages with Azureus that tell me that UPnp has successfully established ports, but I also get the following errors. Any further ideas? Maybe I need to reset my Azureus settings to factory default? Any more help would be appreciated.

Failed to establish listen on port 6969.
Check that other applications aren't already using this port.
Also check for another copy of Azureus running.
Error while processing advanced socket options.
Cannot assign requested address: bind

I'd had similar errors when I'd used an old NetworkEverywhere router which could supposedly implement uPnP, but I seemed able to connect to servers, torrents, and trackers just fine. My suspicion was that Azureus was attempting to open the ports before the router was ready to handle it. You may wish to open Azureus and click in the menu bar Plugins -> uPnP and view the messages there.

| Ok, here are the results for my UPnP Log. Does ths help at all? I am still having NAT Issues.
Also, does anyone know how to completely reset the Azureus settings. A complete uninstall did not work, nor clearing the registry. Where are the settings kept at?

You may wish to attempt to determine what caused this, though it appears that he uPnP connection was re-established.
I think you will have to learn to ignore the error messages.

I am replying to any topics regarding the DGL-4300 and/or the DSL-300T as these are the two items I purchased which caused a few issues which I have now overcome after a week of configuration changes. As with all routers/modems issues arise.... thats life. So enough waffle...... the concluding facts:
DSL-300T with latest firmware 05/2005. Latest to date anyway as of 06/09/2005.
DGL-4300 with v1.4 firmware

(1) A couple of points if you are thinking of using this router and modem together: The DGL-4300 requires the 1.4 firmware to fix compat issues. If you are planning to use the modem as the PPPoA for connecting to your ISP, and the router connecting to the modem via DHCP Client be aware that the modem has a refresh rate of 60 seconds on the DHCP IP timeout which would be better increased to perhaps 3600 seconds.
(2) Now for the problematic DSL-300T: I orginally thought it was the router causing most of the issues I was having, I was proved wrong. If you are planning to use this modem for the most basic of tasks behind a router or PC you are unlikely to experience any diffculties. But for those who use the internet for anything and everything the modem is very prone to crashing or hanging over a few mins or several hours when overloaded with connections (Keep reading for Solution). Now I mention bittorrent as this is very heavy on the connections, I am using ABC 3.0.0, but most other clients are the same to be quite frank. The work around solution is not to use the PPPoA feature on the modem, and use the modem as a direct BRIDGE. This is configured in the setup modem drop down list. Once the modem is configured as a bridge and DHCP server turned off, the router can be configured to use PPPoE/PPPoA in my case PPPoE as my UK ISP supports it. Problem solved!
(3) Now for the DGL-4300: I have read so many forums about problems and issues regarding this router, but my first comment would be dont assume the router is always at fault. In most cases it wont be!!! My only comments on this would be the 3 areas for port configuration are fine as they provide, single port fowarding, port range forwarding and triggered port forwarding. GAMEFUEL I now have configured as default and automatic after trying several methods I am happy with the default settings. But if you really really want something below or higher than everything else use 255 for low priority items and 128 for high priority items whilst Auto is still enabled as disabling this will only cause more headaches.
