Re: Setting up static IPs

Just to confirm, I use m0n0wall, which is what pfsense is based on and it works great with multiple static IP's and PPPoE. I have been very impressed with it. I hope you like it.

I am curious if anyone out there can help in setting up a block of 8 static IPs. I just can't seem to get my head around it.

We currently have the Actiontec gt701wg in bridge mode (RFC 1483), with an IPCOP box doing PPPoE authentication. Once we ordered the static ips, PPPoE assigned us a new static IP, but as of now I can only use the one IP it gave.

I would like to be able to have multiple incoming IP's to IPCop and port-forward based on IP/incoming port, but due to a limitation in IPCop, I can only do that if I set up IPCop statically (i.e. no PPPoE).

Do I need to have the modem do the PPPoE/A authentication (with NAT off), or can I just set it to RFC1483 Bridging with "Static" instead of "Dynamic" (see »www.qwest.com/dslhelp/modems/gt7···2605.pdf ), and set an IP in IPCop?

I'm pretty sure it would be easy to just have the modem do it all, but we've had a lot of luck with stability in bridge mode, and I would rather not push my luck with the actiontec.

Sorry if I'm missing something easy .. just haven't been able to figure it out yet.
Thanks
Pete

edit - I think I just got it going - I just installed PFSense, which looks like it can do it with PPPoE.
